If the Celtics did promise to take Schroeder with the 16th pick, and there is mutual interest for both the player and the Jazz I thought of an interesting three team deal that might benefit all teams involved. There might need to be some filler but here it is:

Boston Outgoing: Bass, Lee or Terry, Schroeder
Boston Incoming: Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap

Indiana Outgoing: Danny Granger
Indiana Incoming: Bass, Lee or Terry

Utah Outgoing: Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap
Utah Incoming: Danny Granger, Schroeder

This trade gets Boston the big they need--whether they want Big Al or Millsap, It strengthens the bench for Indiana, and it gives Utah the rookie point guard that they want plus a Elite player in Granger when healthy (or an expiring contract at the trade deadline).

I think that the money works out for just about every one in this scenario too, or pretty close at least.

Thoughts?

I've actually been kicking around similar ideas recently.

I think Lee could be tremendously useful for the Pacers behind Stephenson. Sam Young has performed admirably, but he just isn't any sort of offensive threat which really bogs down an already low scoring Pacers' offense. And with West and Hansborough both free agents they could use Bass as insurance.

I'd pull the trigger on the deal, but I think Utah might not simply because of Granger's injury history. Schroeder is a nice young prospect, but Utah doesn't want 13m worth of cap space sitting on the bench in a suit and tie, which is what they might get in Granger. But if they think Granger has a good chance of coming back healthy this deal really does fill their 2 major needs.

Also Indy might say no if a market develops for Granger. He is a risk, but when healthy he can be a serious threat and teams might be willing to gamble on him and offer more than just 2 bench players coming off a bad season. I'm not sure if the Pacers are ready to give up  on him just yet, he could be the outside scoring presence that they really need and if they let him come back and show he is healthy he will be worth WAY more than the return they are getting in this deal.

I have based this trade concept on what I have read over the past few month's on Indy's interest to move Granger, Utah's interest in a new point guard, and recent news of our interest in Paul Millsap or possibly Al Jefferson.

Granger has one year left on his contract, so even if Utah does not like his injury history, they will like the size of his expiring contract as a trade chip during the trade deadline.

Indy needs better help off the bench, and I think that Bass and Lee or Terry would actually improve their depth both in their capacity to defend, stretch the floor, and score in limited minutes. They did not have great seasons this past season, but I blame that on the erratic nature of the Celtics season and chemistry issues more than the players. And even though they will be taking on about 11 mil in contracts for two players, that is still less than the 14 mil for Granger, and fills a bigger need for them than an injured Granger does--and I think he has been injured for the better part of three years now.

The Celtics, obviously need a center and a guy who can score. I think that Big Al fills that need more than Millsap, but the Celtics seem high on Millsap if reports are accurate. Either way they will take a similar amount of cap space probably 11-13 mil per year.

Maybe Indy wants a pick or Utah wants another pick, but basically I think this trade fits needs for each team involved, and the money works. So at the very least I can see a trade like this one happening on draft night or soon after.

it's not a bad idea but Utah would have to S&T either Al or Milsap.

also, if we're the ones supplying Indy with the incoming pieces, why not land Granger ourselves (provided he passes a physical) to solidify the starting SG spot.  If healthy, he provides a major boost to the offense and can swing to SF when needed.

for that matter, to pile on the deal, move PP (which I'm not a fan of but just throwing an idea out there) to Utah for the vet presense they want for a S&T for Al.
Al, KG, Green, Granger, Rondo makes for a pretty impressive starting lineup (provided they're all healthy).  Sully, JET (ugh), AB, Crawford, #16 pick and a couple of big man vets (Wilcox again maybe) and maybe a backup SF (Pietrus maybe) would be a pretty decent team (provided KG would return without PP)

I don't know if I've ever seen Granger play the 2 before. I'd be slightly worried about him chasing down smaller/quicker players and ending up injured, but if he could handle SG role I would be all over taking a risk on him.

Then we could try and move Avery Bradley for some front court help (maybe Mozgov) or as you suggested Pierce for Big Al.

Big Al
KG/Sully
Green/Granger
Granger/Bradley/Crawford/Terry
Rondo/Schroeder?

Thats a solid starting rotation and if we could find some bodies to fill out the front court it could be really dangerous.

My other thought would be bringing in Granger to play SG (and praying he stays healthy) and then moving Green (possibly paired with Bradley) while his stock is high for a legit big man like Cousins, Gortat, Varejao etc.

Cousins(Varejao/Gortat)
Garnett/Sully
Pierce/Granger
Granger/Crawford/Terry
Rondo/Schroeder?

Thats a team that could make waves in the playoffs if it stays healthy and if there are injuries then you can dump whoever stays healthy to contenders for whatever you can get and start to rebuild.

I would rather keep pierce than trade him for granger. Pierce will probably be around for one more year. Then his contract is off the books, and he likely retires. But most likely he will actually play next year, compared to Granger who spends most of his time with knee injuries. And if we get Jefferson, we don't need Granger's scoring.. we will already have Green to go along with Jefferson, which gives us rebounding too. Personally, I want no part of the injury prone Granger, and would rather see PP retire as a Celtic than a waste of a trade for granger.
