i hope doc stays, but if he leaves, there are two guys i would like:

1. jeff van gundy
2. kenny smith (if he decides he wants to try coaching. i say on this board years ago i thought mark jackson would make a great coach, and i was right.  i think the jet could be really good too, if you are will to roll the dice on a rookie coach)

Bill Laimbeer. :o
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I don't think Doc is planning on leaving.  I believe he wants the same core back, and this is his only leverage to get that.

Agree 100%. Putting together what we're hearing about PP etc., this makes a ton of sense. And he only needs to wait until 6/30.

Mind you, if I were Ainge I would not view the holdout as completely credible. I think that Doc has a strong likelihood of coming back even if PP and even KG leave.

For $7M per year, Doc has a lot of incentive to return.

Remember, there isn't much pressure on a rebuilding team.  Without expectations to win, the coach has free reign.

Yes. And I think Doc is someone who enjoys coaching teams at any level as opposed to someone like Phil Jackson.

I think one other way to look at it is this. If Doc thinks that holding out for a little while sends one (last?) gesture to PP and KG of his loyalty to them, then he might be doing it for that reason, even if people mostly believe he will return.

I don't think Doc needs the money. And I don't think anyone who followed the team before 2008 would think he enjoyed coaching those "no pressure" teams more than he's enjoyed coaching the Celts.

someone better undoubtedly.  preferably someone who can coach both offense and defense.  someone who gives a [dang] about regular season games.  someone who knows a timeout can help stall a run by the opposition.  someone who can install a defense scheme that doesn't put our guys in poor rebounding position.

Yeah, I also wouldn't mind a seeing a new coach on the Celts. I am wondering if it's time for a new voice.

Paul Silas has a solid track record and got a bad deal in Charlotte...(sarcasm)

I'm baffled by the amount of fans that want to get rid of Doc Rivers. Why?

What holding out thing? You mean like what kg does which is pretty much nothing?

They are asked after they get eliminated from playoffs if they are coming back and theybsay"I ddon't know" then the media and everyone else speculates and makes up a 100 stories that end up being wastes of time.

Its just funny I guess people don't know our personal lile you'd think they would.
