Hello all I am new here and would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give my views on the current state of the Celtics. Some of you may know me from the RealGM forums, I posted there as Hemingway, Hem33, Daff E Duck, and Vonnegut.
As for the state of the Celtics, the offseason is always a time of uncertainty. The first dominos to fall with be PP and KG. I think Danny Ainge would like to bring both back and add more help, and I believe this is the best route to go. No matter what happens, the best thing for this team is to stay competitive, stay above .500. I know many people will say that if you cant win it all blow it up. This is foolish. If you tank you only have 1 shot to get good again- draft the next LBJ- and even then he might jump ship after his rookie contract.
If we stay competitive and keep our winning culture there are a number or ways we can get to the top again. 1. trade for the next star on the move, they never want to go to lotto teams. 2. FA KG and PP will come off the books at some point and if we have a solid team w/o them and money to spend it could be a perfect situation(some will say we never get big time FAs but we also never have the money to spend) 3. Get lucky- if we were healthy this year we could still be playing, sure Miami is good but you never know are we have talent too- never under estimate Rondo when it counts the most.
Get a Big!
The key to staying competitive is to get a C (or pf we can make pay C). It may also be the key to getting KG back. Hopefully danny is on the phone get someone: Howard, Smith, Bil Al, Maslip, Love, STAT, Gortat there are b=probably more I'm forgetting- but get one. Sully and AB are good but they are both too short to ever be great and they are who we should be willing to part with to get a big.
Keep as much of the bench intact!
In the past we have had to turn over the bench ever year because we filled it with cheap contracts- old guys who were done after a year or younger guys who played themselves out of our price range. Now we can finally keep most of our guys. Look at the Spurs, they are old too but they keep guys and build chemistry. We need to do that too. I'd look to bring back Barbosa and Collins as well.
