Here's a couple takeaways from Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck on @FelgerAndMazz: 1) like Ainge, anticipates Doc back; 2) wants to keep vets, but acknowledges more pieces needed after first-round exit. Grousbeck: "I want to retire Paul’s number, but I don’t want to do it any time soon because I want him to keep playing for us, to be honest. I want KG back. I want Doc back. I’d love to have Rondo back. I just want to get them more help, that’s my going-in assumption."

He also said he wants to do what ever it takes to win another championship but he acknowledge that with Rondo, Green, and Sully (probably named more guys) they were not going to be able to win the lottery as the team was too good.

very interesting how the language makes rondo separate from the 'vets'. I agree i want paul and kg to retire in green. they changed this franchise and made us relevant again. Im not a rondo hater but i think if anyone is going to get traded its him. its unfortunate he got hurt because 1. we need him on our team to win and 2. it hurt his trade value. i grew up with the antione walker roster so im ok with relapsing our poor record to enjoy pierce leaving. i enjoy full circles like that. seeing pierce come into the league and seeing him leave is unique. not many sports fans or franchises can say they have been a part of something like that

Oh, and he also mentioned that Rondo, Pierce and KG went somewhere with their wives.  He wouldn't say where.  Basically the team is on hold right now as they give everyone (KG, Doc) a breather after the disappointing loss to the Knicks.

I have no real issue with "running it back". However, I don't see a logical move to bring in help. Another role player isn't going to cut it. Danny is obviously in a tough spot

Not sure why people are jumping to conclusions about Rondo based on Wyc's comments. A GM at the combine said that there has been little to nothing coming from the Celtics regarding Rondo. He's not being shopped, per this GM.

Perhaps when Wyc thinks vets he thinks guys older than 35, like Terry and KG and Pierce? One never knows and so, I don't think anyone can read anything into this comment other than, he wants all these guys back and knows they need to add more bodies because these guys can't get it done(meaning a title).

Does this mean that Wyc won't sign off trading Pierce for the sake of trading him and would rather keep Pierce than waive him by June 30 if there is no good trade available?

"I’d love to have Rondo back" means "I hope Rondo will be ready for the beginning of the season".
Wyc just makes his usual speech of a role model as a celtics. Can't expect less from him.
I like him btw. Good communication, good heart.

I think he's saying that he'd rather pay Pierce than waive him.  Fine; it's his money.  It might be a decent business decision for all I know.

But if Danny shows up with a deal that helps the team/franchise, I'm sure he signs on.

Thankfully, our team's managing partner isn't an idiot.

I hope not. At least not this summer. Let him come back healthy and get his value back up because right now we're not getting equal value.

I remember last year, he said he wanted the vets back. Next thing you know, KG and Pierce were back.

This year he has said it again, I think both Pierce and KG will be back.

Also, can't we use some sort of sign and trade to trade Lee, Bass, Terry, Crawford and a couple picks for some good player. I think the only big name player that we have a legitimate chance of getting is Big Al or J-Smoove. I think we should go for it.

Unfortunately our bench will have to suffer, unless we can add some nice shooters similar to Heat.
