(I think my math is correct but if not just take Cunningham out of the trade)


Saves the Mavs a bunch of cap room by getting them a bunch of non-guaranteed contracts and a non-guaranteed 2nd rounder for contracts next year and a pick (all of which take up cap room).  I'd probably be willing to throw in a heavily protected future 1st if required.

I thought Portland has our second round pick this year? Otherwise it looks pretty good to me.

You are correct.  We do have two second rounders in 2014.  Maybe just do both of them and possibly a highly protected future 1st (you know something like top 25 protected in 2014, top 20 protected in 2015, lottery protected in 2016, top 10 protected in 2017 otherwise 2nd rounder in 2017).

Do the Celtics actually want to trade into this draft?  Everyone seems to want out.

Well, Ainge might feel like you can buy low. It's a tradeoff between player quality and what you have to give up.

But also, I have been seeing some things saying that actually, this draft is pretty deep in the 15-35 range. (Just as examples, the bottom of that range in most mocks includes players like Withey, Tony Snell, Hardaway, Rice, Bullock etc.). And if you look across mocks there is huge variation in how people rank players in the 15-35 range, suggesting parity.

I may try to put together something more comprehensive, with supporting quotes and some analysis of how players in that range look compared to previous years. Need to find some time.

Generally, I think people can get hung up on draft "quality" as depending on the top 2-3 players, ignoring the depth issue, which is really more relevant for most teams.

If the C's could come away with Adams and Schroeder, I'd be very happy with this draft.  Rondo at the deadline should land a young All-Star caliber player as well.

If KG retires or agrees to a trade, then you can add a '14 lotto pick as well as whatever he might bting in return.

Dallas/Pierce could be a great start to Danny's offseason.

No.  Paul needs to be traded before June 30th, while Smith can't sign and trade until July.  It's certainly possible you could use things acquired in a trade with Dallas to trade things to Atlanta for Smith, but there's no guarantee at the time of the trade it will work.
