So just for kicks and giggles, lets say that KG trade that nobody is tired of hearing about goes through of Bledsoe/Butler. Then Danny flips Rondo to ORL for #2/Vucevic/Turk. Then drafts McLemore. Not sure ORL even does it but maybe they really want a star. Value wise I think it's fair for a player like Rondo.

Bledsoe
McLemore/Bradley
Green
Sullinger
Vucevic

Boston would then have Pierces 16, Turks 11, and Butlers 8 all coming off the books next summer. Let me do the math for you gents..35mill coming off the books. Extend the qualifying offer to Bledsoe of around 4mill and Danny has a total of just under 20mill on the cap and that's it.

You can also do what you want with Pierce's contract after these two moves.

It's fun playing armchair. Thoughts?

I won't trade Rondo for anyone in the league with Lebron being the only exception.  All this trade for Rondo is downright ridiculous to me

NO, NOT Turkey-Glue!

I don't want him in Boston.

I think your salary cap math is way, way off.

Wouldn't they still have Lee, Terry, and Bass on the books for about $18 mil combined in 2014-15? Plus whatever they pay Sully and Bradley.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I do it in a heartbeat but the magic don't want to win yet, they're still waiting for next year to get wiggins or Parker....
Magic would never do it.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Why would Orlando want to give up that rebounding machine? I don't understand why people think we can just throw a PG coming of ACL surgery and get a legit rebounding/Scoring young center.. PLUS the number 2 pick. I mean I would like it but we have to be realistic.

I don't like Vucevic much.  Just don't think you can win the games that matter with a defensive liability at center.  Some teams can be exceptions if they have transcendent talent elsewhere on the floor (Miami for example) but in general you need that protector in the paint.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

There is a definite difference between the words "liability" and "average".

All that money coming off the books could be a reality with a little more work.

Send Jameer to Boston in that deal (and decline '14 team option) and Orlando can take back Lee and Terry.  (I envision Terry going to a 3rd team with a different player going to Orlando.)

I'm sure Bass could be moved for an expiring contract.  Especially an Eastern conference team impressed with his ability guard Melo and Lebron.  (Some expirings that come to mind are Chicago after picking up Rip's team option, Sacramento for John Salmons, or Washington for Trevor Ariza.)  Or Bass could go to Orlando in that trade and one of Lee/Terry could be moved for one of those players.  Particularly Lee to Chicago would be make sense.

If all that happens... then you do have your core of

Bledsoe
McLemore/Bradley
Green
Sullinger
Vucevic/Melo

all signed for 22M + whatever McLemore will be making (5 mil).  So that's 27M committed... that's a lot of space to work with and a pretty decent core of players in place.  Probably a team that would have a good draft pick that offseason as well.

I know what the words mean, and I picked 'liability' for a reason.

The Magic were a better defensive team last year when he wasn't on the court (they sucked either way though).  He posted a very nice PER of 18.6... while opposing centers posted a PER of 19.8 while he was on the court.  In other words, he takes away more than he adds.

I think Vucevic is absolutely an elite rebounder.  I think he's a good opportunistic scorer as well, though I'm not sure he's the kind of player who can reliably generate his own offense.  But he's not an asset as a defensive player, and center is the most important position to have a defensive asset.

Vucevic is a 22yo 7-footer from overseas wbo looks like he could grow to be quite strong.  It's way too. early to settle on what his defensive capability will be.
