After cruising some Pistons forums I actually saw this idea brought up a lot. I actually posted an idea a few months back and people kind of called me crazy (my idea: Rondo for Drummond/Magettee)

Either way, Detroit desperately needs a pass first PG who can lead that squad. With a top level PG, they can certainly contend in the east and I think Detroit would really embrace a player with the spunk of Rajon Rondo.

What better way to start a rebuild then trading for a young talented center?

Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

We can get better return for Rondo. Maybe if Drummond gets unleashed next season it could come up at the trade dead line.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I wouldn't trade Rondo for Monroe.

I don't think Detroit trades Drummond for Rondo. Too much promise. They'll want to play it out a bit more and see how Drummond develops over the next year or two before they'd consider moving him for someone like Rondo.

I don't think they trade either for Rondo.  Rondo doesn't really fit what they are doing and both Monroe and Drummond have shown great promise and skill and both are big guys.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Pistons fans want to pair him with them, not trade him for one of them. Bigs work well with very talented PGs so they would likely  return one of their guards (Knight, Stuckey,)and a pick or something

Here is one such article discussing this.

TP for the article good find. It is titled properly though "wishful thinking". They really think they can sell Brandon Knight as the center piece of a Rondo deal?

Thanks. Lol, I agree. If you want a top quality player you have to give quality back in return. Knight (especially with his embarrassments this season) will not do.

I'd offer them Rondo, Bradley, and a pick for Drummond and one of their poor contracts to match salaries. Drummond-Sullinger frontcourt would be awesome.

I doubt it if they keep Calderon around.

How the lottery plays out could have a big effect on this.

Suppose they get a pick high enough that taking a PG doesn't make sense. In the extreme, they have #1 and would be looking at Noel, Monroe and Drummond. Too many young big guys. In that situation I could see them moving one of the bigs for Rondo.

Or, they get a lower pick but during the draft the SF/guard they want is gone. I could see them moving that pick or one of the big guys.

This is still the same management team that took Darko over Melo and signed Charlie V and Ben Gordon to huge contracts, so I guess anything can happen.

Also, I think Dumars is getting close to the end of his never-ending rope so maybe he try's to make a bold move to show he's serious. Who knows

I would hate this trade.  Rondo is a better basketball player than Drummond, and has a reasonable contract for two more years.  Drummond is on his rookie deal for three more years, but then either he gets a max extension, or he hasn't played well enough to deserve it.  Assuming Drummond pans out, you save big in salary for 1 year, and then a little in the following years.

Now maybe if we get Bledsoe and sign him to an extension that is less than what Rondo is paid for the next few years I would feel differently, but otherwise, no thank you.  The risk far outweighs the potential reward.

Just out of curiosity? What kind of contract do you think Rondo will agree to in 2 years?

While I don't have a number myself, this is a very interesting point should we decide he is staying as the main piece. Or work a contract that is tradable in the summer of 2015? Interesting idea.
