@nerlensnoel tells @ESPNAndyKatz he has interviewed with Boston, Orlando, Charlotte, Phoenix, New Orleans & Cleveland. Targeting Nov/Dec

How could the Celtics move up to the 1 or 2 spot in the draft? My guess would be some sort of deal surrounding Rondo? I'm not saying I would do it but just wanted to get other Celtics fans thoughts on this...

Probably just doing due diligence. Doubt anything comes of it. He has already interviewed a few other talents way out of the Celtics draft range

How awesome would it be to have a local kid with that kind of size and talent on the Celtics?  Extremely unlikely without a big shakeup.

But think of this...  What if you were to setup a trade to get the 1st overall this year, and a lottery pick next year?  And then say, you trade PP, KG and JG and basically keep AB, Sully, Melo and garbage to tank the team for next year.

You would then presumably have a team of AB, Sully, Melo, Nerlens Noel and 2 high lotto picks in 2014 to hopefully shoot for Parker or Wiggins and potentially another lotto guy.  That's a quick start to a rebuild, and in 3-4 years probably a really exciting contender.

Do we have any evidence of Danny doing this in the past? If not, that might tell us something.

If we move up I think it's gotta be (a) involving Rondo, and (b) involving the Pelicans, who have less need for Noel with Davis, and would really benefit from having Rondo as well.

I assume we would also surrender other assets, like Sully and #16.

Almost certainly not gonna happen, but fun to think about.

As Boris said, has Ainge done this type of thing in the past?

A Rondo for Noel trade would be a great way to enter a full-blown rebuilding process and to put the team into position to get a top 5 pick again in 2014.

It's just an interview, doing what every good GM does, get to know the kid, that's all.

I wonder if there is any possibility of post-combine medical revelations that will damage Noel's draft stock.

Who in the top 2 would have interest in Rondo? New Orleans? I feel a 28 year old Rondo is too "old" for their rebuilding process

I think they interviewed MKG last year.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I could be down with this. Danny is going to exhaust something like this to the fullest, bet he wants to have a bunch of pieces by the time Doc's contract is up so he keeps him

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I doubt we go after Noel, Danny is more than likely doing this as due diligence because they finally get a chance to introduce the organization to this kid.
He LOVES the Celtics and says he wants to play for them one day...his favorite player is KG and on his twitter feed he's had plenty of 'celtics for life!' Type posts.
Danny's getting in some gushing/ we love you/want you etc...in preparation for his free agency in 4 years time. Probably standard practice.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

They did. But they were reportedly also trying to move up in the draft.

‏@An aside on Boston. C's met with Victor Oladipo, who will likely be gone in top-ten. Met with Kelly Olynyk, too. Could be looking to move up
