What if new Sac'to owners will overpay to add a piece to Cousins/Evans?

With a report that the Maloofs have agreed to sell a controlling interest to the Sacramento-based group, perhaps the new ownership will want to make a splash.  With Tyreke Evans a restricted free agent, the team will have to use most of its cap space to retain him.  There has been talk that some of the Kings ownership group was checking out Monta Ellis as a possible addition.

Most trade proposals here involve the Celtics trying to acquire one of those young players, but what if they don't?  What if the Kings are interested in adding a veteran All-Star to Evans and Cousins?  If the Kings GM comes asking about Pierce, what is your initial asking price and how far are you willing to come down off that price? 

Sacramento traded away a protected first-round pick (top-13 protected in 2013, top-12 protected in 2014, top-10 protected 2015-17; if not conveyed by 2017, receives 2017 second-round pick), so that may complicate their available assets.

Ha, I just posited a hypothetical in that other thread. Might as well post it here too:

Sacto has several mid-size but short-term contracts on the books. John Salmons' second year is only $1 million guaranteed (essentially making him an expiring next season), and Chuck Hayes and Travis Outlaw both expire in 2014-15.

I was wondering, if Sacto wanted to get out from those contracts and free up additional cap space for 2013-14 (Josh Smith?), would they give up pick(s) to do so?

Problem is, they already owe a future 1st to Cleveland (one that they won't be paying this year, and likely not next year either). Would need to offer Boston something in return for taking on those deals.

Edit: I suppose there's no reason why Sacto couldn't make their selection on Draft Night, and then trade the rights along with those players for Pierce. Is the projected #6 pick in a weak draft enough?

Evans' cap hold until he's resigned is $13.1 mil.

The salaries of Marcus Thornton, Cousins, Fredette, Patrick Patterson, Jason Thompson, and Isaiah Thomas pushes those commitments to around $38 mil.

There are also cap holds for James Johnson, Cole Aldrich, and Toney Douglas to consider. But I think none of the three factor into Sacto's long term plans. Let's assume all three are released.

Trading Salmons, Hayes, and Outlaw for Pierce, and then waiving Pierce, would bring Sacto's commitments up to $43 mil, I believe. That leaves them with a lot of cap room to help retool the roster and put a legit third banana next to Cousins and Evans (or whoever Sacto brings in to replace Evans).

You only trade Pierce to Sacto if they are planning on waiving him. Sending Pierce to that lotto bound team would be a huge slap to the face. But maybe that's just me.

Coincidentally, Geoff Petrie is not expected to be retained as the Kings GM.

You're going to get more in return trading Pierce to a team that thinks it is closer to competing than it actually is.

If I were them, I'd overpay for Tyreke, get a new coach who's ACTUALLY "Smart" and let DMC go.

Isaiah + Tyreke are good players to work with... Jason Thompson is pretty good, Patrick Patterson is pretty good... just make some good draft picks.
