Shabazz Muhammed may fall out of lottery? (NBA.com)

I'm not a big fan.  He is going up against some pretty strong headwinds in trying to be an above-average NBA player after putting up the assist/block/steals numbers he did.  He'll be an outlier for sure if he's successful.  Then there's the matter of his one-dimensional offense. 

Let's say the ball goes to him on the wing.  If he's going to be a big-time scorer like people think, he's going to have to be a dangerous weapon in that situation.  My concern is that he doesn't have much to go to.  He owns a bad combination of a below-average handle and below-average first step.  If you're handle limits you to being a straightline driver, you better have a first step that let's you beat your man.  If you have a slow first step, you better have crafty moves and a tight handle that let's you work your way close to the basket.  I just see a guy who doesn't have the weapons to create a lot of high quality looks.

I concur with a lot of others on Shabazz:

If he somehow falls to us at #16 - I suppose you gotta take him as the BPA at that point.

But I don't particularly like him or his game.  And I don't think he's a great fit for what the Celtics need.

Maybe if he falls in our lap at that point ... we trade him for someone else' lower 1st plus an additional pick?

What injuries is he battling?  I don't think he's dealing with anything.  He worked out on the first day of the combine to mixed reviews and then presumably sat out the second day on his agent's advice but was fit enough to go through the athletic testing.

I'm just happy the Celtics don't have a lottery pick in this draft.  To go through a miserable season only to get a high pick in a draft devoid of franchise caliber/all-star caliber players would be a major let down.

I watched and read the combine reviews.  There was no injury mentioned.  Come on. A degree of cynicism is warranted. He dropped out because he had a bad day and didn't want to potentially hurt his draft stock.  I'm not slamming him.  Unless you're a big like Steven Adams and you're going to floor GMs by hitting open 15 jumpers (oh my gosh!), there's more downside than upside in participating at the combine.  I'd just hesitate to call Shabazz a warrior.

I will say that, knowing myself as I do, Id convince myself that Shabazz would be the steal of the draft if we landed him. But until we do, I think he's going to be pedestrian in the NBA.

Ball dominant, definitely productive but inefficient is how I see him panning out in the pros.   You have to take either the BPA or need if your one piece away.   We have to take the BPA as I see it but I see him as a chip not a cornerstone.

I don't like "me" players.

Who says he's the third biigest talent in this years draft? Drafting him would save us years of mediocrity? That's a lot of praise for a guy who's been torched by multiple NBA scouts and a few NBA GM's.
Big call going against what a lot of the experts have said.

I agree if he falls to 16 you must take him, hell even move up a few spots if you can cheaply....but this guy has bust written all over him because of his attitude. Almost like a young JR Smith...and most guys like that don't have careers like JR Smith. He actually reminds me of a rich mans Terrence Williams when he was a lottery pick. Not the best athlete, but brute strength...almost like a man among boys in the NCAA, but way more growing up to do than talent.
Big gamble, but one you have to take in case he turns into a JR Smith eventually.
