Trade Idea W/Chicago To Acquire Mirotic's Rights/Picks

The next Dirk Nowitzki . . . or the next Victor Claver. 

I think the latter is more likely.  There's only one Dirk Nowitzki.  There's tons of Victor Clavers.

I think the Victor Claver comparison is interesting. Claver's only 2 years older, and has obviously struggled with the NBA game in his first year over here (which is common, but not a thing you just brush away or anything).

Claver though is still an unknown for Portland. He's shown he is willing to work but they don'tknow how to use him yet. he bounced around 3 positions and didn't shoot very well this season, by his own standards and what you expect out of a stretch 4. He's also been very versatile though, and does a little bit of everything. People are optimistic aobut him in Portland, but not overly so.

That said, he's not the shooter Mirotic is, and with Mirotic you have guys saying things like:

People were optimistic about Claver, but not like this. You have guys who are covering the Euroleague saying things like "Mirotic WILL be an all-star".

But you're right, Dirk was probably a little high. I didn't know who was less than Dirk but more than Gallinari.

So essentially we're taking on $19.4 mil in additional salary and trading the best player in the deal to move up from a top 16 draft talent to a top 10 draft talent?

I don't think Wyc would even consider this.

We're not in the same situation as the other teams that have taken on these kind of salary dumps - e.g. Washington with the Rashard Lewis for Okafor & Ariza deal, or Charlotte with the Maggette for Gordon and a future draft pick deal.  We're not below the salary floor in need of adding salary - we're in the tax.  Asking the owners to take on $19+ mil in a deal like this better come with some enormous incentive. Which the proposed deal doesn't have.

I think Boozer has one more year and Hamilton has one more year.(maybe Hamilton has two?)
If we could get back Mirotic and a late lottery pick I think it's a good deal.
We'll be able to start Boozer and or Hamilton and then deal them before their deals are completely done anyway.
Boozer would probably be a 20/10 player with Rondo feeding him the ball all season.

Boozer is expiring next season, and Hamilton's deal is unguaranteed, so ChicGo can just waive him..no reason to give up assets to be rid of him.

I am pretty sure Boozer has two years left, not one. I think he signed a 5 year max deal with  Chicago in the summer of 2010

You're right.

Although, all this does is add incentive to Chicago to make the deal...but being saddled with Boozer's contract long-term probably isn't the greatest outcome Wyc could've hoped for either.

Well, I don't know. I mean I think 2 years of Boozer is alot better than 3 years of Bass and Lee.  Plus I think KG and Boozer could be a pretty decent front-court.
