Jimmy Butler has been great in the post season and is clearly the Bulls SF of the future.  Deng isn't old yet and has good value, but will stunt Butler's growth so they should look to move him.

Not sure what kind of trade they could get, but I think this trade with Boston makes some sense for both teams: Deng and Hamilton for Pierce and Sullinger.  Deng is the same age as Rondo and would be a good running mate for him (Hamilton is just cap filler).  Chicago gets 1 more year from Pierce before Butler takes over long term and gets a solid prospect in the Boozer mold to take over for him down the line (if healthy) in Sullinger.  Obviously trading Pierce and losing Sullinger pulls at the heart strings, but to get someone like Deng Boston has to give up good value.  I think it is a trade that could work for both teams.

Why not just move Butler to the 2 spot and keep Deng at the 3?

Rather get Al-Fairqou...

I'm not getting rid of Sully... Then who'd replace him at PF?

Also, at this point Deng is a much more valuable player than Pierce.

Bingo.

Deng's shooting/offense is sorely missed this series. Butler is a long way from replacing Deng there, I think.

No interest in deng whatsoever.

I don't see the point of making that trade. I mean I don't mind Deng but he is no where near the offensive player Pierce is or at least was.

Plus Deng is broken everywhere

Some posters here say that Avery Bradley is a defense-first guy who had a good half-season where he played at an unsustainable level on offense.  Anyone who feels that way about Bradley would probably have some doubts about Butler sustaining his recent contributions on offense until he proves them wrong.

So, if the Bulls believed Butler was best-suited to the role of defensive sparkplug off the bench, that might be why the team would not make him the full-time starting 2 and instead making him a defense-oriented sixth man.

They should've traded him about 3 years ago.

Just don't know if Deng can come back , he hqs soooooooooo manu issues , nagging injuries,  always this , that and the other.

Neither Deng or Iggy will ever be Paul Pierces equal over a career .

Butler gotta be the biggest steal , dude is huge force on the court.

He is pretty big and I think he outgrows that spot as well and can't keep the quickness required to guard SG's.  Seems much more like a prototypical SF to me.  And sure if they don't move Deng than they will start him at SG with Deng as they are their best wings, I just don't see that as a long term move and the longer they keep Deng the worse his value gets.  I think if they can get Pierce and Sullinger for Deng it is pretty solid value and makes them a real threat to Miami if Rose is healthy next year.  I'm just not sure they are with Deng as they really need Pierce's offense to take the pressure off of Rose.

If the Bulls make a trade with one of their big pieces this off-season it will have to be for  a guy who can take them over the hump.  Sully is nice but I'm not sure he fills any need on the Bulls.  Likewise, I think they lose quality minutes in a Deng for Pierce deal. But Pierce's offense and leadership would be tempting.  I think if Thibs wants this deal, I probably don't want it.

Yes, the Bulls should absolutely trade him, if they can get any value for him.  Thibs has run him into the ground the last couple of years.  I would be surprised if he ever fully returns to health.  Unfortunately I think the other teams in the NBA (and the insurance agencies) might know this as well.

Deng's shooting/offense is sorely missed this series. Butler is a long way from replacing Deng there, I think.

Butler has been a better shooter than Deng this season. Butler 47/38/80%  to Deng's 43/32/81%.   Butler has dramatically improved his outside shooting from his rookie year, trending upward in all zones.  The only shooting zone where Deng is better is the mid-range, and that shot is falling out of favor with NBA teams.

If I'm the Bulls, I keep both and try to move Boozer.
