Why doesn't the NBA do stuff like this to their refs?

When the refs don't know / don't understand the rules, I think fines and suspensions are absolutely appropriate.

I don't think this should be extended to judgment calls, or "bang-bang" plays.  Misapplication of the rules needs to be punished, though.

Agreed, but it's pretty clear - quite frankly - that NBA officials apply rules quite differently to different players.

LeBron, for one, comes to mind.

I wouldn't go so far as to say NBA games are fixed.

But there are most assuredly players who are protected consistently by NBA officials.

Last night's Heat/Bulls' game is a PERFECT example.  There is NO WAY that the ref missed Wade CLEARLY fouling Belinelli on a critical three point make from the corner with the ref standing 10 feet away staring at the shot!!! 

This could have changed the outcome of this game and therefore this series as Lebron then came down and hit a three and the game was virtually over.

don't forget the Noah foul the possession before that 3 was hit. Noah picks up a foul on a clean offensive rebound and Bosh goes to the line for 2. Running it back, if Noah got the rebound and the putback (highly likely since Bosh went to the floor), got a defensive stop, and then hit the 4-point play, then that would've been a 6-0 run, as opposed to a 3-2 back-n-forth.
