I love Stan Van Gundy. Terrific coach. He is at the top my list of available coaches right now. Also a big fan of his brother Jeff Van Gundy and Nate McMillan. Any of those three I would be really happy with.
I also like Brian Shaw as an assistant who has the capacity to be a top coach. A couple of other assistants like Mike Malone, Mike Budenholzer and David Joerger sound like promising head coaching prospects too.
That said, I don't think there is any chance Doc leaves.
He's got a lot of years left on his deal and is a young man. I don't think he walks away from the C's for a few more.
I can see him taking a year or two off from coaching and then picking a new spot if Boston stays rebuilding for long, but thats a few years away.
I agree with this. Doc agreed to a rebuild when he signed last year. He knew it was coming and I think he wants to prove he make another group of guys a contender and not just be known for having the big 3 fall in his lap and that is what made him be considered a great coach and for other people to say he wouldn't never be considered a great coach at all if that never happened to him.
That being said, I don't really know who I would want to replace Doc. I honestly think if we go down that road, we will get someone worse than what we have now. I'm not sure I want a Van Gundy personally. I'd rather have Jeff if we went down the Van Gundy road.
I don't think Phil Jackson would ever be associated with the Celtics in ANY form.
Pop isn't leaving.
I'd take Thibs but he's busy doing a good job in Chicago.
So in reality, I'm perfectly happy keeping Doc. Because I just see us ending up worse off otherwise.
