Blair's a guy with weight/conditioning issues on top of his ACL issues.  He's a 6'7"-ish PF/C who can rebound okay but doesn't make up for his lack of height with offense or defense.  He's lost playing time because he's not as good as Boris Diaw.

Doc wont play him or he wont fit into docs scheme.  Sign Patrick Ewing instead.  Old big that Doc can run into the ground.

Doc played Perkins and he won a title doing it. Unfortunately we don't have anyone close to Splitter to play now at center.

I love Splitter and think he is one of the truly best Sixth Men in the league. He will make a terrific starting center for a team. But there is virtually no way the Celtics could get him. The only possible way is a sign and trade but you have to give up either Rondo or Green and San Antonio doesn't need either a SF or a PG.

Which is pretty telling, because Diaw is undersized himself, and has also been a shadow of the player he used to be in his peak.

A pretty big shadow.

Can anyone explain to me how we got so cash strapped? It seemed just a couple seasons ago we were all talking about how good of a monitary situation we were in.

Blew all our cap space for a few years this past offseason. We had a window to reset with not much on our cap then.

Signed Green, Bass, KG, Terry, Lee all to multi-year contracts.

He's really a quality backup on a contender. He's a starter on a fringe playoff team or lottery team. If we are going to be the latter then it needs to be at the right price. A Robin Lopez type contract would work, but I think someone will seriously overpay this guy.

yuk.....here we are with barn full sorry swing men,  no bigs , no space to get a good center,  so we'll continue to play with no defense in the paint , no inside game,   just chuck and shoot, one shot and out , no rebounds,..........lets run back an play defense with Bass at center,   guard the paint with nobody but worn out Garnett..

about six players need to be cut from this team as a waste of time and money.

Like Faf said, this all happened last offseason.  In many ways this is the fallout from our run last year.  If Rose didn't get hurt and we go out in the 2nd, or even if Miami had crushed us in the ECF we probably would've blown up the team, or at least been conservative with especially length of deals.

Not sorry we did it, though I wish the money had been better spent.  But we can't realistically get Splitter unless some major changes happen.

We're not cash strapped, and our situation is fine -- flexibility doesn't imply that we're sitting under the cap with money to spare (this is not the NFL).

For an example of someone who's really cash-strapped, check out the Nets, who have $70+ million tied up in 4 players... up to 2016. Also in the same boat: Miami and Oklahoma.

In the league as it is now? Your center doesnt determine whether youre a contender or not, you just need a quality guy to play the role.

Yeah, it's important to note that high salaries do not imply inflexibility.

I would rate our flexibility as middle-of-the-road. We have three young-ish guys we could move pretty easily (Rondo, Green and Bradley). Terry and Lee are probably our worst deals on the books - those guys have negative value.

In a pinch, we could move Pierce if the only goal was shedding salary - but of course we could waive him too and only be on the hook for $5 million more.

KG has trade value but a no-trade contract. If he wants to play out his deal, we are "stuck" with that.

Bass is probably moveable, but wouldn't fetch much in return. But he has shown consistent value, it's not like he's Michael Beasley.

I think this situation is pretty good actually. If we get a good season out of Lee next year, it'll look a lot better. He's our big "albatross" right now and it's still just an MLE deal, it's not like we're paying him Gerald Wallace money.

The Celtics pretty much had a choice of bringing KG back and committing to some long term deals that put the roster's blow-up date as 2014-2015 (or later) or putting together the sort of team that the Dallas Mavericks did.
