Chad Ford just came out with his most recent mock, and he has the Celtics selecting the best player available in Carter-Williams. I think MCW is going to be a starter in the NBA caliber player. His bench scoring would help our second unit. He could play with either Rondo or Bradley.

Although I would like to see a big fall to us, if we could get MCW I wouldn't complain. What do you guys think?
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I'm not wild about Syracuse players.  They hardly ever translate to the NBA.

Are there other oversized PGs in this draft? Or is this the one I've been hearing about?

Could work with AB.

He's the only one still coming out. Marcus Smart was 6'4 but built like a tank as a pg. Despite being a top 5 pick he decided to go back to school.

i suppose he is like most mid to late first round picks...over all a good player but saddled with 1 - 2 significant problems.

the good - excellent passer, great defender, can attack the basket, confident, and very tall for a pg.

the bad - played zone at cuse so hard to judge fully his defense, can make poor decisions and make "home run" instead of safe passes.

the ugly - he cant shoot worth a lick. good form, terrible results. shot under 30% for 3pts. jump shooting also under 30%. around the basket he shoots only 49%. doesnt finish at the basket well.

if you want to see more ... http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Michael-Carter-Williams-6262/

all in all, not bad for late in the draft. but i think the celtics could pick someone whose strengths would help the celtics more.

Here's his draftexpress profile:

DE has him going #12. NBAdraft.net has him at #11.

I don't see him falling to us. There's only one or two PGs above him (Trey Burke and McCollum).

If those two are gone by #14 there's no way Utah doesn't pick him, in my mind. I could see him going as high as #7 to DET.

For OP - can you show us the whole list Ford has being taken before him?

I think he'd be a great pick though given the other talent likely to be available at #16. We certainly need a backup PG and his size could be a real asset paired with Bradley or Lee.

I would like to but I don't have insider. I saw the entire list on Sportscenter.

As to Draft Express and NBAdraft.net having him going much higher, I trust Chad Ford's sources more than I do theirs.

Huh. I think DraftExpress is very good, actually. NBAdraft.net seems worse.

I just took a quick look at the last couple of years and don't see any obvious edge for Ford vs. DE. It's a bit tough to tell though because everyone revises their lists so often it's tough to make an apples-to-apples comparison. (I.e., Ford's last mock might look very accurate after the fact because he updated it on the morning of the draft, as he sometimes does - I think last year he updated it *during* the draft).

The most recent mocks I saw for them both had us taking White and Nicholson last year, for what it's worth. No one had us taking JJJ in 2011 (which makes them the smart ones, I think). I remember that DE had us picking Bradley in 2010.

Maybe I will dig a little deeper on this.

Looking at the list of available prospects, there aren't any perimeter players with bad handles and I'm talking Ainge-draftee bad.  Facetiously, that says to me that he's either going to pick a big or a point guard.  The only perimeter player Ainge has drafted in the first round who was a good ballhandler was Rondo.  It's pretty remarkable how he's stocked up on bad ballhandlers.  Gerald Green, Tony Allen, Avery and Giddens are really bad ballhandlers and I'd say Delonte was only average at very best.  Bill Walker didn't go in the first but he was a limited ballhandler like his first-round counterparts.  It's almost too absurd to be real.

Based on his drafting history, it wouldn't surprise me if he weeded out wing prospects by putting them through a skills competition.  Those who handled the dribbling portion with ease were unwittingly dropped.

How dare you?! Hakim Warrick is to basketball as the Counting Crows are to summer music festivals. He's always kicking around somewhere, but nobody really seems to notice or care.

MCW is an interesting prospect but not one I would particularly like to see on the celtics. Having watched a hand full of Syracuse games I think he is going to be a decent pro but I worry that he will face the similar problems that rondo has as a shooter but without elite athleticism to compensate with. While he is a big pg he isn't as big as people may lead you to believe, he measured 6'5 in shoes with a 6'5 wingspan. Greivis Vasquez is 6'6 1/2 with a 6'7 wingspan, Russel Westbrook 6'3 1/2 with a 6'8 wingspan.

I was actually surprised my the rest of Fords mock. He had Glen Rice Jr at 15 (I think this kid could be a steal after how he played in d-league finals). He also doesnt have Tony Mitchell in the first and Archie Goodwin as last pick in the first.

I'm considerably more interested in finding someone who can work _instead_ of Avery Bradley.

Bradley had a difficult season. However, he was asked to play out of position, coming off of double shoulder surgery. In his difficult season he was the best points per possession defender in the league.
