Im looking at the salaries for the celts over the next few years on sham sports.

http://data.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/celtics.jsp

It looks like unless some of these trades are made, the next realistic chance the celtics have of possibly signing a max level FA is in 2015-2016.

The real issue there is that if you add in a salary that Rondo will likely demand.  (in the 15 million range)  Along wtih a likely Avery bradley extension (5 million range) that puts us back up to 39 million in salaries and also needing to resign Jeff Green.

Finally, it is looking like the 2015 free agent class will be pretty terrible with the only position holding decent players being the Center position

Marc Gasol
Brook Lopez
Omer Asik
Roy Hibbert
Deandre Jordan

2016 is the the year with players like wade, bosh, lebron, deron, Durant all being free agents again.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Your analysis is pretty correct.  We *could* clear the room to sign a max free agent, but that would involve us waiving and "stretching" a lot of our role players, leaving us with dead money on our cap in future years.

Probably so.... I could See Gasol wanting to get out of Memphis though.

Is there a third Gasol that the lakers can draft and trade to Memphis for Marc?

Don't know if you know this but there is actually a third Gasol brother.

Having max money to spend isn't very useful unless you already have a franchise star in place.  You spend max money to get a second star to solidify your core.

So until the Celtics acquire that main guy I'm not worried about spending max money.

I understand what you're saying but I personally think a team made up of Rondo, Green, and a true max contract player. (not a joe johnson max contract player) is good enough to contend for a title.

The other thing is, the celtics can free up max contract space but they also need to convince somebody to come here.

We could probably spend max money on a player this summer if we trade PP's contract for that player.

Cooper played football until he had a career ending injury.  I think it was in his neck, and I'm pretty sure he gets along fine with his brothers.

If KG retires after next season, the Celtics could theoretically have the cap space to sign a max free agent or make it easy to trade for a big contract in the summer of 2014.

Would you overpay potential restricted free agent Larry Sanders and hope the Bucks don't match?  Would someone like Pau Gasol still be able to play at a level worth a $10-12m contract?  Will the Celtics have the assets to bid for Lamarcus Aldridge if he looks likely to leave Portland and the Blazers try to get something in return with a year left on his contract?  If Derrick Rose proves to be a mentally shattered shadow of his former self, will the Bulls look to blow up their roster and trade off Joakim Noah?

I can see how the Celtics would have a shot at adding an All-Star caliber big to a core that could include Rondo, Green, Bradley, and Sullinger.

It may require moving some contracts, but at that point, Terry and Bsss are expiring contracts who could be included in a trade.

We could "potentially" have enough cap space for a max-level FA in either 2014 or 2015.

I say potentially, because it depends on whether or not we're able to move a couple of contracts this upcoming season for expiring contracts.

Above and beyond anything, and regardless of what path you think the Celtics should take (rebuild or retool), moving the contracts of Bass/Terry/Lee for expiring deals this upcoming season is of paramount importance.

Clear those 3 contracts, and the C's will have plenty of cap space.
