Tom Thibodeau is doing an amazing job as a head coach for the Bulls, and I want to know why Danny Ainge didn't make him OUR head coach?

Is doc rivers the Celtis coach for life or what?

Remember when doc wanted to spend more time with his family? - He should have.

We had about a 3 year window but it looks like D A tried to stretch it out to double that length, (even though he accused Red of holding on to the original big three too long).

I think that both Danny and doc should go and make way for a new era of Boston Basketball.

They had their chance, time is up.

Do you think perhaps Thibs went to be the man somewhere?   We didn't want to let him go but he wanted to be a head coach.

Doc was just coming off a championship> I don't think in the real world, people fire a championship coach for an assistant.  Maybe here in Celtic Blog Fantasy Land that happens but in the real world, no way.

They had their chance and succeeded, you generally don't get bounced for that.

Losing thibodeau was as big as losing any player during this era.

Pretty sure Tom was offered a head coaching job before, but was loyal to the celtics. The time he left, Rivers was also encouraging him to leave.

The Celtics have been a top 5 defensive team, oft number 2, since Thibs left. He is a defensive coach. I fail to see how his being head coach would have made much of a difference. I guess playing KG 42 mins. a game might have changed some things.  ::)

I thought that he'd interviewed a lot but never received an offer.

Yeah he'd a guy who kept being team's second or third choice.

Heck he was the Bulls second choice, they wanted D'Antoni.

I think it's pretty hard to fire a coach who just took his team to Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Thibs wanted to be a head coach.  He wasn't going to continue being an assistant.

Too bad they didn't get their first choice, that might have done more to hurt their chances than Rose's injury.

I'm guessing that both Doc and Danny realized at some point that:

(a) Thibs was going to get a head coaching offer,

(b) he would probably take it, and

(c) it would ultimately help the Celtic reputation as an organization if they encouraged and helped him as opposed to being difficult about it.

A better organizational reputation of course helps Doc to hire better people now, and will probably enable Danny to hire a better replacement for Doc in the future.

I think you have to take the long view with decisions like this.

What old players has he had in Chicago where he has had to worry about minute restrictions?

True...but thibs was as big a reason as doc for either finals appearance
