"Woeful for Wiggins" should be Danny's motto for next year.

Unless we trade Rondo, Green, Bradley, and Sully, we will be in no position to get wiggins.

I do think we should blow the rest of the team up though

I'm referring to missing the playoffs and winning the lottery. I don't think a team built around Rondo & Green makes the playoffs next year.

Winning the lottery is easier said then done. Even if we were the absolute worst team in the nba, there are still no guarantees.

What's the backup plan when we lose the lottery?

Loaded 2014 Draft = Blow It Up ?

I say do the opposite. Many teams will tank to get first round picks for 2014, many teams will trade good players to tank or to save money.

My logic tells me that very good players will be availiable for cheaper than their realistic price because of draft 2014. If KG and PP come back next season i think there is good posibility that Ainge makes a package for a allstar player.

But first thing first we need to wait and see KG and PP desicion and than make further plans

Trade Green and Rondo then.

Try to get expiring contracts and draft picks for them (higher the better)

Build around cap space, youth and draft picks.

We are too good to be even at top 5 next year with Rondo, Bradley, Sullinger and Green. We may miss the playoffs, but that core will not be bottom dwellers.

I say move up this year's draft and take Shabazz Muhammad.

His potential is sky high, he may not be Superstar potential like Wiggins but his ELITE (as the Mock Drafts say) athleticism and scoring ability could be very valuable. Has the tools to be a great defender.

He has some issues of course, if he's not he's a lock #1 but we have the leadership in the locker room and a great winning mentality to fix certain issues with him (such court discipline).

He's projected at around 5-15, we pick 16th, we can surely package something like Bradley and the 16th to move up.

The kid has holes in his game, but he has the most talent in this draft class and he's dropping, snag him. It's a little more possible to grab Shabbaz than we tank and get Andrew Wiggins. Muhammad can be our next Paul Pierce.

You seem to have found a realistic way to get to the bottom, that's the easy part. If that's all it took to build a dynasty then the Clips and the Kings and the Wizards would be perennial contenders.

I'm not a short-sighted fan.  You don't build a contender by perpetually making the playoffs with the 7th or 8th seed.

Fact:  Drafting in the Top 5 gives you by far a better opportunity to land a franchise player.   Regardless of what happens next season, if KG retires... this team is going to miss the playoffs.   The thing is, we might be a late lotto team if we hang onto Rondo and Green.  Yes, you can luck into allstars picking in the late lotto... but if you want a franchise player, you're gon need to be picking in the top 5.

List of the most productive players in the league this year:

LeBron - #1 pick
Kevin Love - #5 pick
Kevin Durant - #1 pick
Dwight Howard - #1 pick
Dwayne Wade - #5 pick
James Harden - #3 pick
Russel Westbrook - #4 pick
Tim Duncan - #1 pick
Al Horford - #3 pick
Chris Paul - #4 pick
Deron Williams - #3 pick
Kyrie Irving - #1 pick
John Wall - #1 pick
Carmelo Anthony - #3 pick
Steph Curry - #7 pick *** wow
LaMarcus Aldridge - #2 pick
Kevin Garnett - #5 pick
Blake Griffin - #1 pick
Anthony Davis - #1 pick

... Are you seeing a pattern here???

Slapping together a mediocre team is fine and all, but it just prolongs your suffering.  If you properly tanked to the league's worst record, your worst case scenario is pick #4.   Yes, this doesn't assure you of drafting a franchise player, but it puts you in a DRAMATICALLY better position of doing so.

Yes, it's possible to draft a bust in the top 5.  It's more likely you draft a bust in the late lotto, though.  Top 5 picks are gold.  They are your one and only shot at a superstar.  2014 draft has 1 bonified superstar in Wiggins and a couple others who may reach that level as well.  You don't get this opportunity very often... and while drafting 6-30 theoretically gives you a shot at an all-star as well (see Rondo, Rajon), it's far FAR more unlikely.

While I hate the idea of it, Celticben, I think you are probably right that tanking for the 2014 draft is the most efficient way to rejoin the NBA elite. I agree with The Rondo Show that if this is the plan, Rondo and Green have to go. They can get us picks/assets now and they won't be around for the next wave. Sullinger and Bradley will probably be the only common pieces.

Most of those players aren't really franchise players. Obviously there's a better chance of getting a franchise player if you're a bottom team than a decent-good team but that doesn't mean that your chances are high. I'd call dumping all of your contracts and getting high draft picks a blueprint for building a dynasty if it generally turned teams that do that into dynasties, it's more a blueprint for a very improbable chance to build a dynasty.

The Celts aren't really in dire straights at the moment. If we had a healthy Rondo for the playoffs we'd have a netter than average shot at getting back to the ecf. I'd rather take a crack at bringing back this (or hopefully a better version of this) roster and trying again, and look into whether I could re-load before I went for the nuclear option. The opportunity to unload all of your assets and suck for a while is there every year, no need to rush into it.

Yes.

"Suck for Luck" was my inspiration.

I am sure there will be plenty of teams racing to the bottom next season. Wiggins is a beast.

Yep.

Which is why tanking for the #1 pick is such a crap shoot.
