He says the c's need additions if he was to come back, but doesn't even know at this point.

Don't do it Danny, adding any more MLE type of contracts to this roster would be a disaster .

We need to shed mle contracts like terry, bass and Lee. Not add more to a team that is going nowhere anymore .

Love everything you gave to this city KG, but it's just not worth messing up our salary for the future anymore than it is.

Eh, call me crazy but I don't think we have to kiss KG & Pierce goodbye to rebuild.  I do think there needs to be an acceptance that neither of them is a #1 option and adjust accordingly. A healthy Rondo,  a healthy Sully, and an unnamed player that can he a factor and we can get back to the playoffs.

The more I watched this team, the more I realized that we need an upgrade at the 2. I love what AB brings, but he's more of a spark plug/3rd guard to me - at least for a championship team.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

They are assets that have no role in our future. Those are the kinds of assets we need to trade to rebuild. If you are sending out young talent like Bradley to "rebuild", you are just moving laterally.

If you don't move them, you are just bringing in mediocre players like Lee or Crawford or you are bringing in over the hill talent like Terry. Plus, we get picks in the late teens.

Then again, we could still get a lottery pick next season with them.

What does KG accepting that he isn't a #1 option mean? When had KG ever wanted to be a #1 option? That isn't a problem. The problem is his diminishing physical state. Still, KG can fit in anywhere due to his defense and pick setting. Pierce long ago accepted a smaller role. Look at his scoring over the last few season. When Rondo is there, they let him run the show. The bigger question might be how to manage a front court where the 3 best players are Pierce, KG and Green. We also might want to start Sully if he is healthy and if KG will also be starting. That means Pierce might be pushed to the bench.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
He's absolutely right about needing additions if he's going to come back. You don't win in this league forcing 36 and 37 year olds to do all of the heavy lifting(scoring, rebounding, and play-making). Rondo and Green will help, but we need another legit high quality starter.

"Need additions" = Add a player like Josh Smith without losing much.

Doesn't seem likely.

They were the two highest paid players on the team. Shouldn't the 2 highest paid players on a team do the heavy lifting?

Tim Duncan is 37, makes less than both, and still does the heavy lifting. Kobe is 34 and still does the heavy lifting.

If they can't do the heavy lifting, that might mean that it is time to move on. The team shouldn't be a museum.

I agree. Big money = big responsibility.
The only solution is that PP & KG have to accept lesser income in order for DA to add Josh Smith for example.
With players taking less money to go Miami or choosing LA for the weather/location, Boston's franchise have to come up with something to attract players.
This franchise is handicapped by the cold weather and the salary cap.

I think it all depends on Ainge's decision, but I really appreciate what Ainge did this year. I wouldn't blame him if he trade or waive Paul Pierce cuz he has to rebuild this team. Paul is priceless for all Celtics fans but the salary cap doesn't agree that……I've been his fan around 10 years but it's just tough to stay with current situation…… :(

Hope KG will be back next year even though Paul is not here, I remember Doc said that every year he never believe KG's announcement at all, cuz KG just can't leave the court and he has too much passion. ;D

Since PP and KG already have multi year contracts, are they allowed to rewrite them for less money?  And even if they did, would the salary cap be affected, given that they both had bird rights?

I love KG to death, from Minnesota to Boston, he's my favorite players of all time.

If this is the end,
Thank you for everything you've done in Boston.

We will miss you.

This team needs a seriously talented big—someone at least as good a rebounder as Sully, but with legit length and shotblocking ability as well.

Too early for this kind of stuff. Give it a rest.

I think Josh Smith will be a much better player under Doc's training. If he can have one year with KG to practice and play with, I believe JS can be our next "Celtic" in the full meaning of the word.
Boston needs new guys that will know what is it to be a Celtic.
Right now I think not even half of the squad are true Celtics.
Can't wait to see what DA will do now. I love what he did last summer after Judas left, it was really great on paper, too bad it didn't work out on chemistry.
As for KG, hope he hangs around next year to give the celtics' torch to someone who will carry this team the way he did.
Love the guy, by far my favorite player of all time. The attitude, the fight, the determination, simply amazing...

That is not an easy piece to get without moving serious assets. Who are players you have in mind? Noah? DeAndre Jordan? Tyson Chandler? Or are you thinking of someone off the bench? Are you OK if they are completely inept on offense?

Sullinger is a darn good rebounder, so you have set a high standard.

They cannot rewrite their contracts. This is not the NFL. As far as I know, the CBA does not allow for renegotiated contracts. Only extensions and buyouts.
