I'm trying to look at the salaries and see if they match.

I'm really hoping we can try to go after DMC, pair him up with Rondo, and if not, try to go for Josh Smith, and try to get a Center who can provide back up minutes. Then use whatever assets we have to try to get a decent starting big.

I was hoping there was a way we could get DMC/Josh Smith, but that seems a little impossible.

I don't see it unless we trade Rondo.

DMC isn't going anywhere until the Kings / Seattle issue is resolved.  Even then, I think the new owners / management will give him some time.  He's too talented not to.

Bill Simmons had an idea, a few months back, where the Celtics would trade Rondo for him.

"Simmons brought up a deal that would send Rondo to Sacramento Seattle for DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmer Fredette and one of the Kings’ Sonics’ bad contracts to Boston."

If I remember correctly, the bad contract was Salmons.

after watching how badly  the C's have played in the playoffs without a real PG, I think Rondo might be the prefered player to have or at least bring back a better return than DMC and flotsam

The last thing I want to trade away is Rondo...

We've suffered a lot in the playoffs without Rondo being there to faciliate, and set up offensive plays.

I'd dread the moment we have a terrible PG at our hands, at the risk of a dominant center who can't create his own shots.

I really think we have a chance at getting DMC this offseason for some combination of Green, Bradley, Sully, Melo, Crawford and our first. Green is a high character guy on a deal that could be a steal and has played great this season. Plus he isn't even at his ceiling. We could sell high on him:

Boston gets:
Cousins, Salmons

Kings get:
Green, Bradley, Melo and/or our 2013 first

Bradley adds even more depth to their SG position and allows them to shop Evans and Thornton for more assets. Plus they clear Salmons' bad contract and could get a pick and developmental player, while Green solidifies their SF position going forward.

I'd throw in Sully, but I'd swap Crawford out for Bradley and want Jimmer or Thomas in return.

I think thats a deal that works for both teams.

That is kind of too much for Cousins.  Take out either Sully or Bradley and put in Bass.  That would be a deal I would go for

Interesting idea then, not so much now that Bradley's play has dropped off the face of the Earth.

I just dont think we have the assets to acquire Cousins or Smith. Even if Smith demanded a sign and trade from the Hawk to the Celtics I dont think we could make it happen. And with Cousins contract being so low we couldnt give the Kings equal value.

The Hawks would have to take Terry, Bass and Courtney Lee... Even then that would be 17.2 million and Smith would have to agree with that money.

Rondo/Crawford
Pierce/Bradley
Green/Draft Pick
Smith/Sully
KG/Wilcox

I think that there should be a serious lesson learned from the embarrassing demise of the Lakers in this year's playoffs.  They had two dominant bigs, but nobody who could create offense from the perimeter.

We are witnessing something of the same thing with a Rondo-less Celtics squad.

Would the Spurs look as good without Tony Parker?

I think alot of people think that if you have a dominant big man, it will be easy to just find anyone out there who can feed him the ball, then surround him with some decent shooters, and presto, contender.

Elite guards are so much more valuable than people seem to realize.  This generally becomes even more important in the playoffs.  But good bigs are nice to have as well.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

There is NO way that the Kings swap Cousins for anything less than Green and one of Sully/Bradley plus filler.

Cousins is a 20 and 10 player who is still only 22. He comes with baggage, but he is still worth a lot more than Green and filler. And I'd happily give up Bradley and Green if it meant I could get a true front court building block like Cousins to pair with Rondo.

Fair enough if you don't think Cousins is worth Green, Bradley and a first, but I bet the Kings think he is worth that and then some. I'd say at a minimum we are talking about sending them Green, Bradley, 2013 first and a heavily protected future first/Melo. Anything less than that and they say no. I'd pull the trigger if they'd take that.

I agree with your proposed deals - tp - I think people would need to sit back and think about who they would rather give up: Rondo or Green/AB. I hate to give up any of them, but bringing in a guy like Cousins could really help boost our team for the future.

Obviously it would be nice to pick up Smith, too, but I don't see how the Hawks bite at anything that doesn't include Rondo or Green. Unfortunately our draft pick isn't really worth anything or else this could be the type of summer that brought in KG and Ray [but obviously to a lesser extent].

Haven't read the thread but just to answer the subject, I would say Rondo would be a part of any deal. Unless... the Kings really want a salary dump and take back Pierce's contract around draft time.

A deal like this might make sense if that's what they wanted to do. You could switch Thornton out with Thompson. Definitely our 16th overall pick is included.

They get nothing but guys on rookie deals, move a highly talented and highly volatile player you know they're not sure they want to invest big money in, and instantly save a lot of money and gain a lot of cap space.

Getting Cousins would be key for the Celtics future, I think he would form a great base future team with Rondo, Green and Sullinger. And imagine next season with Rondo, Pierce, Green, KG and Cousins with Sullinger (and if we could get decent a backup PG) that's a team going straight for the title.

Problem is getting Kings to agree to a trade like that.

Maybe with 2 first round picks, 2 second rounds and cash? Still hard? Even if we have to give up more it would be worth it to form a future team.
Goal for next season: Top 2 seed.
Say goodbye to: Turner, Zeller, Sully.
