What kind of sweetener would it take to make the Nets do this trade?

I know a lot of people look at Kris Humphries and throws up a little in their mouth but truth is, the guy does one thing very well this team needs. Who knows where Sully will be coming back from his back surgery.

Not to mention it gets Boston out of the last 2 years of Terry/Bass combo and allows Brooklyn to add two bench players they likely wont be able to add any other way.

Humphries is still 28 years old and averaged 14 points/11 rebounds a year ago.

Would Brooklyn have to add something to make you consider?

I actually like Humphries...I just don't like his baggage.

I assume you're referring to defense? Is he really that much worse than Bass?

Do we really need to take on Humphries for a year to shave the contracts of Bass and Terry? There will be teams later in free agency that would likely absorb either or both for a protected 2nd rounder.

I believe we could trade both easily for cap relief if that's what we truely needed.

On the one hand, Bass is a guy you can use to guard Carmelo Anthony and Lebron James.  On the other hand, Humphries is considered to be pretty bad at pick-and-roll defense.

Humphries is inferior on both offense and defense and his rebounding edge doesn't make up for that.

If you are just looking to dump their contracts, just wait a year until they become expiring contracts.

I don't see why the Nets would do that for anything less than players/picks that Boston wouldn't want to trade.  Humphries has a huge expiring contract, which makes him incredibly valuable around the trade deadline.  They will hold on to him till then.

Or, put another way: why would Prokhorov trade Humphries now for only an extra $12 million in salary commitments, when he can trade him next February for far more than that? It would go against his nature.

I don't think either team would really be up for this trade. Boston gives up [clearly] better players, but shaves a year of guaranteed salaries.

If NJ is really intent on competing now, they can do a lot worse...

I think I may have just convinced myself that NJ would be the ones having to sweeten the deal, not the Celtics...

On a somewhat unrelated note, this is kind of like trading Lafrentz for Ratliff - to get out of an extra year of salary...if Lafrentz actually had talent [at the time] and he was two productive players.

Honestly, though, I'd do that deal without any sweetener.  I'm all about getting the role players off the books beyond this upcoming season.

It's just a bonus that Humphries is probably a more productive player than either of the guys the Celtics are sending out, though he's not much of a defender.
