KG would take Dwight's head off. Would rather bring in a Max Contract you can actually build a winning team around. That is not Dwight Howard. Howard is not a Celtic and does not deserve to wear the uniform.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I will probably get a lot of crap for this, but I think Howard is an elite athlete with elite strength and size, but I think he is just an average basketball player with zero leadership qualities. I'd pass on him. And I feel exactly the same about Josh Smith. But at the end of the day, I'd rather have Smith so i would actually have some money left to build a team around, as well as having some more overall versatility.

I disagree. You won't get a lot of **** for that, and not from me, because I totally agree. He's one of those players that was given great natural ability, is able to use it well, but will never be a leader. He could be the strongest man in the world, for what it's worth, but to become a true leader he's gotta get his head in the game and calm the **** down.

i'm going to throw this out to one of the people here that know the salary cap better than i do.  can we sign dwight to a contract that fits for the first year and grows when we get cap space after kg and pp are gone?  kind of like a very backloaded deal?

Regardless, I don't see why Dwight would accept. I'm thoroughly convinced he will take the max, the maximum and nothing but the maximum. We can't offer that type of stuff.

I'm pretty sure there are rules against that. Either way, we wouldn't have enough cap room for even that maneuver.

No.  There is a limit to the annual increases in a contract.

There are a lot of reasons on why LAL moved to acquire D12 before the 2012-13. One is to get the advantage of (exclusively) signing him for a 5yr max contract. Another is for the team to have more leverage in getting more (i.e. All Star players, top picks, etc)in return if they S&T him.

Though I would strongly favor the Celts of acquiring him, I really do not see us much into play in pursuing the big guy.

you can back load a contract, but you have to have cap room (for the total averaged per year) and only certain players can sign back loaded deals.  This is what Houston did with both Lin and Asik to try and get their original teams not to match, which worked in their cases.

Howard is not a kid anymore , but his mental age is about 15.

I think LA deserves him, along with his incredible athletic powers , his mind is sooooo weak,   he is unstable on the court.  He is a liability as a team player.  His brain locks up under pressure.

I would LESS happy to see Howard on the Nets and Lopez on the Lakers.   Howard is a screw ball .  He seems to get worse with time as a head case instead of better.

Pau and Lopez is a better fit than Howard and Pau IMO.

Howard is not worth 118 million ...that makes LBJ seem dirt cheap.

LA is up the creek ,  they need a  STAR name coach to baby sit their spoiled group.

Only Phil or Doc Rivers , maybe Pop could keep this mess of spoiled stars pointed in the right direction.

Since LA isn't getting DOC or Pop,    they seem to think and maybe rightfully so, their entire season and signing of Howard depends on dumping Mr Pringles and hiring Jackson.

here's a slightly scary thought that I don't know enough about the salary cap and the CBA to confirm or deny.

Could Dwight and Josh Smith hypothetically head to Dallas?

They need to do a complete salary dump of Shawn Marion's salary to make it even close to possible.

I hope my math on this is right ...

If Dallas dumped Shawn Marion and Vince Carter without taking any salary, the Mavs would have roughly a $31 million payroll including their draft pick (late lotto) this summer and cap holds.

The salary cap will probably be about $60 million. So Josh Smith would command a starting salary at 30% of that cap. So $18 million. Dwight Howard is already earning more than that. $19.54 million. I think he can get up to a 4.5% increase on that. So $20.42 million. A total of $38.42 million.

Dallas would have only $29 million ($60 million minus $31 million) so only $14.5 million apiece. So both players would have to take a large salary cut. Especially Dwight Howard who would be losing almost a third of his salary + the extra guaranteed $20-30 million he could get from the Lakers from the extra year plus slightly larger annual increases. A massive amount of money.

I don't see that happening.

If they let Mayo, Collison, and Beaubois all go, in addition to releasing rights to all other free agents I think they could get their salary down to like 28-29 million, which would give them a starting point of like 15 million.

Either way I think they have enough room that could realistically go after both and then force a sign and trade for at least one of them to cover any discrepencies.
