How do we GET Dirk?

We're not.  Pretty sure Cuban has said that the team would not trade him under any circumstance.  Not that it's 100% set in stone, but I'd be willing to bet Dirk will retire a Maverick.

There's no way we get Dirk, lol.

I know. It was more of a question for the OP. It's easy to name a team with an additional star player. In reality, there's no way we're getting him.

DALLAS -- With the Dallas Mavericks' 12-season playoff streak in question, star forward Dirk Nowitzki expressed strong doubt about the front office's plan for the franchise's future, even wondering whether it'd be in the Mavs' best interests to trade him.

Nowitzki, who was admittedly disappointed and frustrated after the Mavs dropped to eight games below .500 with their eighth loss in nine games Saturday night, told ESPNDallas.com that owner Mark Cuban's post-lockout decision to let Tyson Chandler and other key members of the 2011 title team leave could be judged as "a mistake or not" after seeing whether the Mavs are able to make any major personnel moves this summer.

Dirk will not play out his career in a non-competetive Dallas. If the Mavs cannot bring anyone substantial in through FA, then a trade is the most likely scenerio.

What I am suggesting, is not just Dirk going to Boston, but rather, an inevitable trade between the two teams (one way or the other) if the Mav's plans fall through and KG doesn't retire. Two BIG ifs.

If KG doesn't retire then you amnesty Pierce and say we're willing to work with you to find you a different place to play.  But we're moving on and starting the rebuild.

Really, though, if this team holds onto Pierce and KG for another season the best case scenario is we get something that's in between the disaster of this season and the unlikely second half + playoff run of last season.  That doesn't get us any closer to being a real competitive team again except for the natural progression of guys like Sullinger and Bradley.  Seems like a waste of time to me.

KG sells tickets,    your feelings may be hurt, as you only see wins,     .......KG is like Dale jr in NAsCAR.....he an't got to win to fill the seats an sell shirts.   TV. media wants big names,  Boston has a history of big name guys........TV money wants KG , And Pierce.    Sorry...Shav, Lee, Fab an' getting it done with those who want marquee players on the court to sell stuff and TV commercial time.

people come to see the stars,   who they gonna see if you dump KG, Rondo, an Pierce..........?

to us basketball guys ......it's about winning........to the owners long as they are selling seats to see big name stars even if they are has beens..

still about making money ......

I think the Boston franchise will,milk KG for every game they can get him in uniform.

I think you (and the story) are misreading the implications here. Dirk isn't going anywhere, but that doesn't mean he approves of every move Cuban and Co have made, or that he's above being frustrated. But, to go back from his "I'll retire a Maverick" talk seems like a bit of a leap.

So IP, you don't view the Mavs as a good trading partner for the C's this offseason if Dallas fails to bring in any impactful free agents and KG doesn't retire?

If KG doesn't retire, the C's are going to be a mediocre playoff team next year, miss the lottery and any chance at a cornerstone player. 

Danny's stuck with the same roster he signed for 3 years for at least one more year.  No one is taking our deadwood.  He'll end up signing either Shav or Wilcox (not both) and another vet min center who won't produce to back up KG. 

Best hope for a major unload of the deadweight is after next year when they're expiring contracts.  2015 should still be a decent draft and we'll probably be a lottery team at that point.  If the team performs as badly in next year's playoffs, I can only hope KG retires and PP calls it quits when that contract is up
