So for those who say to blow it up, how do we do it? Rondo won't want to stick around for a rebuild, and any trade involving him is gonna bring us less in value. Who is a realistic trade partner for Rondo?
why wouldn't rondo want to be around for a rebuild? its rondo, the guy who was practicing and shooting jumpshots the day after we won the championship, that we're talking about.

Its time to dump salary, we will probally have to trade Rondo to get rid of some of the bad contracts. The Celtics are in no mans land right now. They need to get rid of Terry, Bass, Lee, and Green in my opinion and rebuild from scratch.

Yeah..the whole 'time to blow it up' argument now is kind of flimsy. That's like trying to sell a horse right after it breaks an ankle.

He has Jeff Green which is a very good counter part. Here's hoping that Avery Bradley and Courtney Lee will have a bounce back year next year. So as JET as I don't think we can flip him for anything.

We need to draft big, and play big.

Rondo has enough, even with an old Paul and KG to make one more run. But the small ball has to go, really.

Im just trying to think of a way that the Celtics can euthanize the horse and get a brand new one

Disagree (respectfully). Without seeing them play you cant possibly say they are worse than Shav.

Whitey can provide us toughness and defense, at worse. Steven Adams is raw but is skilled enough. Olynyk can help us with our offense. Even Dieng can block or alter some shots.

The point is we need KG back to the 4. He just cant be the last line of defense, but we still need him to patrol the whole thing. If we have someone big enough clogging the lanes, it will make it difficult for other teams.

I haven't seen Shav do that. Then again, Shav doesnt play because he's too tall for Doc.

We're not getting a top 10 draft pick with Rondo on the team. If you want those type of players, you have to go all out and trade him as well. I'd send Rondo to the Rockets for Asik if we do blow it up.

We're in great shape.

Rondo is an allstar, and a starter at that.  That's an add.

Green's ability is becoming clearer.  Probably will become a nice #3 option at the 3.  His contract isn't bad for that role.

Lee and Bass, despite being overpaid, are still competent role players in need of competent stars to surround them.  Sully is probably in that group, too (but not overpaid, of course).

I like what we're seeing in Williams, Crawford, and Shav enough to keep them as roster filler next year.

Pierce has a nice contract to trade at the draft.  We should hope to at least get a young player that can play.

KG probably takes the walk or something gets engineered around his wish to leave once Pierce is dealt.  JET follows suit.

SOOOOO....

We have 2/3 of our top-3 for next year in Rondo and Green, and on reasonable deals (Green will never see that rebounding incentive!).

We have 4/4 of our next-4 role players in Bass, Lee, Bradley, and Sully.

We have some nice wild cards in Williams, Crawford, and Shav.

We're just one player away, one top-level scorer, preferably a big, and the roster is balanced and we compete.

The pieces available include Pierce and possibly KG, a 1st, and a nice collection of pieces to throw at the wall.

A starting, star-level Center, and we might contend next year, with or without Pierce and KG.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
We're in a mediocre to at most slightly decent shape with a hint of disastrous injuries.

We just need to do whatever we can to accrue the worst record of possible; the 2014 draft class is one of the strongest in a while.

I am all for blowing it up.  I think the trade I like the best for Rondo involves Charlotte and their rights to Detroit's first and Portland's first as well as Kemba Walker.  Not sure if Charlotte would do that, but I think it would make sense for both teams  (depending on whether Gordon opts in, you could do Rondo, Melo, Green for Walker, Thomas, Gordon and the two firsts).  That would potentially give Boston 2 additional lottery picks in 2014 to go along with their own.  That seems like the best way to rebuild quickly.

I would then see if Memphis was still interested in Lee for their trade exception and dump Lee that way.

Not sure if I can find something for Bass and/or Terry, but I think I would be open to trading them to Denver for McGee (not sure if Denver would do that).

The trouble is then finding places for Pierce and Garnett that makes sense, though they might just retire.

Boston would then be one of the worst teams next year heading into the 2014 draft, with what would likely be 3 lottery picks, their own, Detroit's and Portland's.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick
