I respect his talent, but give me a break do you think you deserve EVERY award that's given? He probably wants SMOY and ROY too.
Quote
"It sucks," James said Thursday as he prepared for Game 3 of the Miami Heat's first-round playoff series against Milwaukee. "It definitely sucks, though, finishing second. Who wants to finish second?"

Quote
"I guard everybody on the floor," James said while sitting at his locker in Milwaukee. "I don't know if it's one player in NBA history that's guarded 1 (point guards) through 5 (centers). It's over with now, but it's cool."

Quote
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has also campaigned on James' behalf for more consideration as one of the league's top defensive players. Even before Gasol was officially announced as the award winner, Spoelstra said he would like to see James break through soon as the winner.

Wow I really feel sorry for Lebron, he's always getting overlooked in the league  ::)

it's pretty easy to play great defense when the refs refuse to call fouls on you

The NBA needs to change the MVP award to the Lebron James Award. Finals MVP? Let's call it the Lebron James Award. Let's rename the league the LBA for the Lebron Basketball Association. Rookie of the Year should be Best New LeBron James. No more First Team All-NBA from now on it should be called the four other dudes and Lebron.

I don't think he's ever been in foul trouble this season..and I remember there was a stretch where he didn't get called for any fouls. I'm sure that's because Lebron is so awesome that his body NEVER makes contact, even when he drives to the basket.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
LeBron had a pretty good point in a way. He's the Heats most valuable defender, and the defense was what, 5th? 7th? And they did it without a defensively dominant big man to keep guys away from the cup. He is likely the league's most versatile defender.

But DPOY is a bridge too far for me. Noah, Duncan, and I guess Gasol since he won, all rate above him, and for the second half of the season I'd even put Dwight Howard and Larry Sanders in there. Just too much value in a big time rim defender to justify LeBron eclipsing them.

I came in 2nd in DPOY voting? What should I do? Should I just admit I'm not the best defensive player?  Should I just stop playing defense? What should I do?  Should I complain? What should I do?

Cries about losing in a popularity contest.

Shows how much substance he has.

Lebron DPOY my butt.

Really?

He gets away with everything in this league. He averages 1 foul per week. And you want to be the defensive player of the year?

If you ain't fouling, you ain't defending.

I've been thinking about LeBron as DPOY for the last couple of weeks. I think he would've been a great choice. I am partial to giving it to a big man but the candidates are all flawed. Joakim Noah was the best of the bunch and he didn't even win it. They gave it to Marc Gasol instead.

I think this would have been a good year for a perimeter player to win it and I think LeBron was the best option out of that group. He is a fantastic defender. Clearly better than Marc Gasol. I really don't like Marc Gasol winning it. Unworthy.

I think LeBron is right to be disappointed.

Lebron uses the word "sucks", twice, to describe the awarding of the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award to a different player. Response from the NBA front office: <crickets>

Doc Rivers uses the word "horrendous" to describe a few horrendously bad calls called against Kevin Garnett. Response from the NBA office: $25,000 fine.

Doc might not be as rich as Lebron, have been as good a player as Lebron, but at least he has my respect as a person.

I agree, except for the bit about Gasol.  No problem with Gasol winning - he's an excellent defender and probably had his best season.  But LeBron is an excellent defender and had a very strong case this year.  The whining's not too classy though, can't get behind that.
