We should have traded Avery Bradley while he was hot

Avery Bradley is definitely an elite level defender. Not denying that at all. He has shown this season that this is all he is. We had a chance to aggressively attempt to package him with another player and get some value from the kid in the offseason or before the trade deadline. I think that was a mistake not doing it. Bradley has NO potential as a PG in this league. His ball handling is atrocious. I thought Delonte West's was awful, but AB brings it to a new level. He also has shown that he is not going to be a reliable scorer for us. He will on occasion score on cuts to the basket, but other than that he can't consistently shoot the ball or create off the dribble.

I had high hopes for the kid before he went down injured, but I think it is safe to say he is a one trick pony. His offensive struggles and inability to create shots for others due to his poor ball handling isn't enough to compensate unless he has 3-4 other scorers out there with him.

AB is an all right slasher and spot up shooter.

You're right, though, he's definitely not a creator with the ball in his hands.

I sure hope that next season we'll have a point guard who is really, really good at dribbling and passing so AB won't have to... if only if only.

AB IS NOT a Pg...I just repeat that to myself a few times during the game and that reassures me. Rondo's the ying to AB's yang..those two work well together because they mask each others flaws. Would be nice to have an actual back up for Rondo though instead of a bunch of undersized Sg's.

This is why Terrence Williams should be getting minutes. He can defend, handle and distribute the ball and do some work in the open floor.

Avery is a good player, but not as a playoff caliber point guard.

I am border line appalled at Doc's inability to put the right guys in the right situations lately. C'mon Doc.

He was a terrible ball handler! He could only dribble to his left. Teams consistently forced him to his right and he would pick up the ball. This is why he also was not a PG. He at least could score though. I think you are probably forgetting this part of his game. That's why Paul always brought the ball down when he was in.

More than anyone on this team Avery needs Rondo. As others have stated he is not a PG, he has been decent enough to be a backup PG but he is not a starting PG on a playoff team. He is an elite defender of players under 6'5, a decent spot up shooter, a great cutter , decent at getting to the rim off the dribble, and only 22.

He has not been hot or healthy long enough to be suddenly worried about this. 



He will look better on offense when Rondo is back.

AB, is still a kid, I believe his shot will /offense will get better and his confidence will rebuild.

Traded him for who an all star? I don't think ab could have brought anything better than what he is even when he was on a "hot streak". Unless you judt wa ted to trade him for a random first rounder which I would disagree with.

He has plenty of time to get better as well

I couldnt agree with you more. After his 14 game hot streak last year people went ape crazy, even heard he "should be similar to a russell westbrook this year". I mean wow.

Ive never seen a player miss so many wide open layups. His shot selection is spotty. He is a pest on defense, yes and not having Rondo alongside of him greatly hurts him. But his value was real high this summer and I am sure we could have packaged him for a big to benefit us better. I see nothing greater in value or talent than what Courtney Lee brings to this team.

I love Bradley - trying to do the best he can for the team in playing a position he is really not suited for. it's like asking KG to be a low post scorer and only do post ups - just not his game.

I think Bradley is not a starting point guard and probably too small to be a long term solution at off guard without that weight mismatch ending up causing him injuries. That being said, he's the ultimate combo guard to have in your rotation. he can play point if you need him to in spot minutes and he can be an absolute lock down defender at the 1 or 2 when you need him. He can also start at either position when needed.

Hope the kid is a Celtic for life - he embodies Celtic pride with his effort, night in and night out.

In other words, how about looking at Bradley as a great asset in your guard rotation rather than as a solution at either the 1 or the 2...

To me that's his long term fit.
