First things first, since I said Brandon Bass is our best player, it should be no surprise that we have had just a 11-14 record (it's actually not that bad really). Think about it, Brandon Bass isn't an All-Star, and he's not even close.
He's stepped up big time when Pierce and KG have sat, and his biggest grievance (rebounding) has been tremendous. The effort has been there and he's averaging a whopping 6.4rpg, which is pretty amazing considering he's Brandon Bass. He's outmuscled centers (even if you don't like him playing as center... blame Doc) for boards and putbacks.
Next, his shooting has skyrocketed. He's shooting 57.3% on field goal attempts, which is fantastic for a big man (over the year, he'd be ranked fourth in the LEAGUE with the likes of DeAndre Jordan and Tyson Chandler). However, the most ridiculous part? He doesn't take higher-percentage post-up shots or get to the rim often. He's one of the league-leaders in field goal attempts from the mid-range and he's been converting at an absurd rate. He's had 10 games of shooting over 66% and just one below 45%, which is truly amazing.
Finally, according to Synergy (ESPN), he's been one of the league leaders in 1v1 defense (high 90s percentile). He has more assists than turnovers, heck more blocks than turnovers, and has been the stable guy we've been looking for during this crazy period of 21 turnover games. He's stayed healthy and hasn't missed a game all year and stepped up big in Game 1 by making all his FGAs as well as snagging down 10 rebounds for our team.. which is also tremendous.
He's been averaging over 30 minutes per game and playing at an extremely high level for a "bench player". If we're going anywhere this postseason, I'm giving lots of credit to Brandon Bass who has been a model of consistency for the team. He's been vastly underrated and if he keeps this up while other players step up, great things could happen. Don't forget Brandon.
