  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
That was a little heart breaking to not score any points in the second half, but overall I'm feeling good about our chances to take this second game and go back to Boston 1-1. Think about Miami last year and the torching they gave us. Pierce and KG were similarly poor in the first game.
We kept the New York Knicks to 85 points. That statement right there means we lost the game ourselves.

Our defense was excellent for the most part. We ran them off the three and they scored a lot of points off our turnovers. I don't feel they necessarily forced that many turnovers, we just gave them 15-20 points from bone headed plays.

Factors to learn from in game one:

*Some ridiculous turnovers and horrid passing from Avery Bradley cost us 8-10 points in the first half.
I think he'll calm down a bit more in the next game.
* Jason Terry was horrific on offense, he's going to be shooting for 3 days straight after that 0/5 effort. His defense was pretty good though.
*Crawford looked like a wet dog. Completely overwhelmed on both ends of the floor. He's a great pick up but having a veteran like Barbosa in a game like this on defense and the fast break would have helped us immensely. Both great scorers but Barbosa's defense and speed were sorely missed.
Doc had to yank Crawford pretty quickly once the Knicks started running Kidd off screens and nailing threes, completely exploiting Crawford.
* Our team defense was fantastic, particularly guarding the pick and roll. We had the green chain flowing in motion and it stunned the Knicks so much so that they reverted to watching Anthony go 1v1 for minutes at a time.
*Jeff Green wasn't too shy. More aggression is needed in the second half. He's so caught up in running the play that he misses opportunities to drive on a mismatch. Defense was excellent overall.
*KG and Pierce looked rusty and rather old- we all know they'll be good to go after a game one and a few days to recover/warm up for the bar fight.
*Bass was great on defense- we just need to get him more open looks or to the line.

I think we have a great shot at winning this series because of three main factors.
1) Tyson Chandler is obviously hurt more than they're letting on, and KG isn't.
2) We are controlling the flow and pace of the game superbly and forcing Carmelo to have a 35-40 point night. We ran them off the three very well.
3) because we are controlling the speed of the game, Carmelo is taking jumpshots. He's taking lower percentage shots more often and that should work in our favor. A) because they're low percentage and B) because they often generate into fast break points for us. I am very surprised Wilcox didn't get some burn and I think he will after Doc reviews the tape. Chandler being out now means Wilcox can't be exploited as much on the defensive end on the pick and roll with Felton.

Cut down the turnovers and we win this game. It was our game to lose and we choked a little bit- maybe we were gassed or nervous but we stopped moving the ball and attacking. Green needs more of the ball in crunch time.

It's expected that we lose one of the first two road games.
It's the hot streaking Knicks, at their home court. I guarantee they were sweating through this game and have realized they're in for a battle.
I like our chances now that Tyson Chandler is questionable.
I like us in 6 or 7 games now after watching game one. We can only get better and the Knicks aren't getting any better without Chandler and Melo shooting that many jumpshots.
If we can hold the Knicks to 85 points per game we win this series.

It's all about grit and balls baby.

I'm pretty indifferent -- don't have a ton of expectations, but I don't think losing game 1 is cause to pack it all up. 85 pts, lost in the last 5 or so minutes thanks to overthinking and some nicely bricked (open/makeable) shots.

so...yea

It was a day game; we typically play better in night games. To lose by just 7 is impressive.

i feel good.  we outplayed them for 3 qtrs.  if we improve on the turnovers, the bench shows up, and we improve our rebounding, then we can win game 2....then its a new series.  i dont expect much on the boards, bc we have always been terrible on the glass....but if we improve the turnovers and the bench produces (literally anything, bc they did absolutely nothing today, i continue to like our chances

Lol.

I actually think we play better when there's 30 days in the month instead of 31 days. ;D

Not sure how anyone can be optimistic after the Celts scored just 78 points? ???

I don't know, I guess it's just one game.

we held the knicks to just 85, which is good when you consider they have the nba's scoring leader, as well as the nba's highest scorer off the bench.

if our bench showed up, even a little, we are ok offensively.  along with taking care of the ball

And limited their damage from behind the three-point line, which is huge.

Put it this way. The Knicks are the top scoring team in the East. They rely on offense to win.
We held them to 85 points and of those 85 points we gift wrapped at least 10 points from unforced turnovers.
It's game 1 at home for them. They're expected to win at least 1 of the first 2 games.
They're happy they got the win but I think Woodson will be very worried about how to handle the next 6.

I actually am somewhat optimistic! We played with them for 3 1/2 quarters after KG missing a ton of games toward seasons end and the team losing a lot. I can remember some series where a team just gets blown out the first game and then comes back strong. The Celts win game 2 then it's still anybody's series.

Not to mention everyone in Boston has been under stress the last few days.  I do think we can win game two.

too many here just like to look at the results and make excuses that are silly. the devil is in the details. 8 points in the 4th quarter. GARBAGE. no posting up or attacking enough the second half. GARBAGE COACHING. i guess people are so used to it they stop even bringing it up anymore. too many jumpshots. GARBAGE.

"oh we only lost by a few points on the road no biggie" blah blah blah

"it was a day game" blah blah blah

excuses, excuses, excuses that do not address the real underlying problems. But it is to be expected.  ::)

Yup we'll win this series.

I don't blame anyone for doubting the team and reading into the regular season too much.  But if you honestly believe Boston is going to lose this series... you owe it to yourself to take a deep breathe, step back... and just try to appreciate KG and Pierce one last time... cuz if we lose this series, there is no way those two are coming back.

I haven't felt good about the playoffs since Rondo and Sully went down. This didn't make me feel any better. A team that relies heavily on making a bunch of three pointers to be good beat us without using a bunch of threes.

To me that means we are going to have to score a lot to win in this series and I just don't think we are that good of an offensive team. Yeah, we held the Knicks to 85 but how many times are we going to do that and how many times can we score a lot more than 85 points so that we can win?
