He's been an outright failure on the Celtics.
All of this Terry hate is dramatically overplayed.
Problem is everybody is judging Terry not based on what he's done, but based on what they expected him to do.
I agree he hasn't brought the consistency and production I was hoping for from him, but to call him an 'outright failure' is just silly.
Terry has come off the bench this year and has given us double figure scoring (10 PPG), solid perimeter shooting (37% 3PT) and has been a consistent free throw shooter to close out games (87% FT).
In 27 MPG he's done a pretty decent job of taking care of the ball(1.3 TOPG) and his assist/TO ratio (2:1) has also been pretty decent for a guy who is not a natural PG.
He has also played decent (if not lock-down) defense most of the season.
I think the problem here is that I (like many others i'm sure) expected Terry to come here and give us ~14 PPG off the bench like he has in Dallas, but it's just not realistic given that he doesn't feature as heavilly in our offensive schemes as he did in Dallas. He doesn't get as many plays called for him here compared to in Dalls where he was a second scoring option.
Another thing is I expected his scoring efficiency to improve playing alongside Pierce, KG and Rondo...but all of this went out the window when we lost Rondo for the season.
Yes I will admit that Terry has been a bit of a dissapointment for me compared to what I had expected from him, but that is partly because he's struggled and partly because my expectations were too high.
To say that he has been a failure though is way overblown. There were times last season (and probably the season before) where we would have killed for a guy who could give us 10 PPG and 37% 3PT over an entire season. Lets also not forget that Terry has been one of the few guys on the team who has stayed healthy all season long and has missed no games except for scheduled rest days.
Please do remember that Jet was thrown in to a very odd scenario very different to what he's been used to. 4th or 5th scoring option on a defensively focussed team, having to share 6th man duties most the season with Jeff Green and then play half the season without a true PG.
I still believe the Jet will hit a huge shot or two in the playofs, I haven't lost faith in him yet.
I've been pretty content with what Terry has given us. To be honest my biggest dissapointment has been Courtney Lee, who has been simply invisible. Had a small stretch there where his defense and hustle were outstanding and even his offense was getting solid, and then it seems he just threw in the towel and decided he didn't care to exist. No passion at all on his face, always looks like he's just going through the motions...inconsistent from everywhere. I was expecting a lot from Lee especially when Rondo went out, but he's been borderline useless. Both Crawford and T-Wil have been IMO more productive than Lee in their time with the Celtics.
Not only did he fail, he turned the ball over which directly contributed to Knick buckets.
You might want to check your stats. Terry only had a single turnover in the 20 minutes he played. His three rebounds and single block alone easilly make up for that single turnover.
He struggled with his shot has he has for a lot of the season, but outside of that he didn't play a bad game. He wasn't a positive, but wan't a negative either.
Those turnovers you're talking about came from Green, Pierce and AB who had 16 (out of the team's 20) between them.
