At the deadline, the Golden State Warriors turned down an offer of Paul Pierce from the Boston Celtics for Harrison Barnes and the expiring 2014 contract of either Andris Biedrins or Richard Jefferson.

Barnes was the seventh overall pick in last June's draft and started 81 games at small forward.

With Pierce, the Warriors presumably would have improved their short-term chances in the playoffs.

For the Warriors, this trade would have made a lot more sense if Bogut was reasonably healthy.  A Curry/Thompson/Pierce/Lee/Bogut lineup would be terrifying to almost every team in the league.  But with their lack of a worthy (healthy) starting center, they aren't a true contender even with the SF upgrade.  Not enough defense.

I agree with their decision to decline this trade.

I would have been ok with Barnes for Pierce.

Turning down the offer was a win-win, in my opinion.

I would be pretty excited about it.  Barnes is a potential building block with a lot of upside on both ends of the court, and I'm not sure you can get one of those for Pierce at this stage in his career.  Borderline theft, though like I said it would have made some sense for GS if Bogut was healthy.

It would have sucked to see Pierce go, but we're at a point where we're just a tough out in the playoffs and we need to start rebuilding.

Very interesting. Wasn't there another rumored Pierce deal that was on the table at the deadline?

I've been one those posters who never wants to see Pierce in another jersey so certainly would've been against this trade.

The fact that I've never been much of a fan of Barnes' game going back to his Tar Heel days wouldn't have made things any easier.  Probably worse.

A young player and a bad contract seems the realistic return in a Pierce trade, which is why I am not a fan of blowing things up in Boston.

I wouldn't be able to complain. As a rule I try not to trade seven years of a very good prospect for two years of a very good player.

If this trade had happen between Pierce for Barnes, Garnett would've became a Clipper and we would've probably gotten Eric Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan.

We'll take CP3 and Griffin too, after we add Bradley and Collins >:)

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
One of the few Pierce deals I would've been excited about. I actually would've been fine with:

Pierce/Lotto protected 1st through 2015
For
Barnes/Jefferson

That's probably the first call I would've expected Danny Ainge to make if the Clippers trade had gone through.

Are you mocking the trade? Because if the reports were accurate, that almost happened. Not the CP3/Griffin thing but the other thing.
