I was impressed that the pacers were able to push the heat to the max in spite of giving up 20 turnovers.  birdman isn't going to shoot 7 for 7 in the next game.  If the pacers can stay strong mentally, they can push miami in this series.

The last play was hard to watch though.  No matter what, whatever you do don't let LJ get to the rim.  Foul him hard on  the way in at least.  He is the best finisher in basketball.  Make him shoot something other than a layup.  Even an uncontested 17 footer would be better.

I know lebron is the best player in the nba and is almost unguardable at times, but you gotta do better than that D if you want to beat the heat.  Paul G from Indiana was pretty stellar the whole night, so the effort is there.  Just a bad angle / decision on D.

Losing Game 1, Pacers?
No Finals for you.

This was their chance.

Well, so much for the Heat losing a series this year.

I must say, I was disappointed by the Pacers letting the opportunity to win game 1 slip, too, but your reaction was not mine.

Looking at the Heat in this game I can't help thinking that with Dwyane Wade playing at about 60% of his previous effectiveness, the Heat are not that scary a team anymore.  I'm not sure this Heat team is really that much better than any of those Cavs teams (that, by the way, also won 65+ games in the regular season).

In my mind, you need 4 things to beat the Heat:

1. An elite penetrator at point guard who can score some
2. A wing who is an excellent defender with good size who can also score some
3. A big man who can lock down the paint and also pass / post-up on offense
4. Playoff experience (goes for coaching staff too)

The Spurs have all four of those things.  The Grizzlies have 2, maybe 3 of those things.  The Pacers are mainly missing #1 and #4 (imagine if you swapped George Hill out for a healthy Rondo -- HUGE difference).

I don't expect the Pacers to beat the Heat, but I still think either of their potential Western Conference opponents have a shot at beating them.

Based on that list, it's worth noting that the Thunder, even at full strength, are missing a key component -- either Ibaka needs to develop a post game so that he can create his own offense down low, or they need to get a center who can score a bit.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

That's all well and good, but I just feel like they (the Pacers) just wasted their best shot at this series.

Of course they did.  But I don't think they really had a shot at winning this series anyways, considering what I wrote above.

I'm going to own up to my foolish mistake here, and without any excuses tell you that I only read your full post after I posted my response to it.

Sorry buddy. First and last time that's happened, promise ;)

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
I'm interested to see what MIA does with West.  Do they let him get his, or do they double and make Stephenson make open jump shots?

Also, I don't think MIA can expect Birdman to score as much as he did in G1.  Somebody else needs to step up.c I think if Chalmers is still hurt (his shoulder), that guy is Norris Cole.

Continued to watch that lebron bucket George misshap last night.

George shoukd be the only one really at fault here. Not vogel or anyone else.

He played the worst defense he possibly could have. There were 2 seconds left and he complletely blitzed lebron kike he was going for a steal.

Indiana playing well. They would be up double digits if not for a few mental gaffes.

Bosh flails his arms around, gets bailed out, and flexes and does his T-Rex roar.

Thank you NBA. This is the drama I want. The passion.
