The Denver Nuggets will tender center Timofey Mozgov a $3.9 million qualifying offer by the June 30 deadline, according to a source.

The decision will make Mozgov a restricted free agent. Denver will be in position to match any offer sheet signed by the center in order to retain his services.

The source said, "Mozgov is a priority and it will take a lot [for Denver] not to match."

Mozgov is currently Denver's third center, behind Kosta Koufos and JaVale McGee. Koufos and McGee both have guaranteed contracts for the 2013-14 season.

Seems silly to pay your third string center $4 million.

Maybe they are planning on dumping JaVale McGee in the near future.

Or Koufos? Might be easier to unload.

Or hoping to trade him.

A C teams want and you can keep control over him for 4 million?  It seems like a no brainer to me.

Yeah its either they unload Koufus or Mozgov
4 mill a year is a very attractive contract for a legit 7 footer for any team.

Javale, as silly as he is, can be a top 5 center in this league.
So much athleticism and talent.

TOP 5 centers
Howard
Marc Gasol
Deandre Jordan
Javale Mcgee
Andrew Bynum (if he ever plays again)

I should have wrote, Top 5 centers of the future. Lol My bad.

I don't really like Brook Lopez's game.
Nothing against the guy, but he gets too low to the ground when he posts up.
And then he cant get his shot off properly.

It seems weird resigning Mozgov only to trade him after Denver spent the whole of this season shopping Mozgov around the league only to decide against moving him because they were unable to get a quality trade offer for him.

I don't see how Mozgov's trade value is going to increase next season while he is stuck behind Koufos and McGee. Especially if Denver do as they say they will and match a multi-year offer in the $4-5 million range.

I can't see his trade value going down.  Signing him to a modest multi-year deal probably increases his trade value since uncertainty due to his free agency probably hampered his trade value.  A team that does want to sign him may be interested in working out a sign-and-trade.  Injuries happen.  Letting him go won't create cap space.  Letting him go probably won't result in a huge luxury tax saving.

You require a brain to be a top 5 center. Something Javale Mcgee clearly does not have.

I WILL DO THIS IN A HEARTBEAT WITH NO HESITATIONS

brandon bass + filler
fab melo or d.j. white
+ Picks or + Cash

Equals

Timofey Mozgov
Anthony Randolph

Denv. barely plays either of these guys, and we could use some young healthy size, basically two 7 footers, and we would get out from underneath Bass's contract.

I think you can look at both Mozgov and Randolph as building blocks for this next era of Celtics, but at the same time they can help in the immediate moment this season. And if we don't like what we see from Mozgov, he's contract is up at the end of the year, so we can let him walk.

And Finally, with Rondo out, how useful is Bass on the court honestly? He really isn't useful on the defensive end, and offensively, if he's not pick-popping with rondo, what else does he do? Moving forward I dont really expect a lot of pick n roll or pick n pop offense, there will probably be a lot of dribble hand-offs, so, where does that leave Bass? He's not going to post up and get the ball for low post offense.

I honestly think he's a better fit for Denver at this point and moving forward, he can do pick n pop with ty lawson and A. miller, and Denv. can do stagger picks, with Javale rolling hard and Bass popping, and Lawson with the ball looking at all of those options.

I personally believe, Randolph still has a lot of potential in his game, he's still only 23-24 and can be a good piece moving forward with Rondo, Bradley, Sully, Green, and others.

Either way, Bass has got to go. And Boston still needs to find a big guy, and not waste time trying to find a "rondo-replacement"

Anyone here think he could be a starting quality center for us? I'm talking at least double double season average with solid defense (omer asik like)
