It's been such a bad year... so many players have been hurt with injuries...

I know this is brought up all too much, but at some point something's gotta change. The overall quality of the NBA is just getting worse and worse, and something's gotta give.

the quality of the NBA is not getting worse.

But yes, there has been an unusual amount of injuries to top players this season

During last night's game, they showed clips of the 1st NBA Celtics Chamionship. They won it on April 13th. Today's NBA plays for two more months. Got to have something to do with it.

... you mean back in the 1950s?

I'm not sure the injuries are any worse than any other year... just happens to be a lot of big names getting injured.  You'd think if there was going to be a huge rash of injuries, it would have been last year when the season was shortened and teams were playing back-to-back-to-back.  Actually, didn't we have half our team injured last year?  This year it just happens to be Rondo and Sully.

Firstly, it seems stars at getting injured way more than in the past. That can't be good, seeing as stars make big bucks for franchises in this league. Teams will definitely want to change this, because how can you sell Derrick Rose or Kevin Love jerseys when Rose and Love aren't playing? That doesn't work.

Plus, if Miami's the only healthy team in the East, then there's no fun because we don't truly get to see the best basketball.

Indiana doesn't have Granger, NY doesn't have Amar'e, we don't have Rondo, Chicago doesn't have Rose while Atlanta/Brooklyn aren't even interesting in the first place.

And not only that, Rondo and Kobe might not even be ready for next season. I feel something's gotta change. Too many big names are getting injured and nobody gains from that...

80 games a season?  That might have something to do with it, don't you think?

I would love to see them change the schedule.

Have only two games a week. A weekend game and a midweek game. Play everyone twice. A 58 game season. Then the playoffs. Best of three for the first round. Not sure beyond that. Maybe best of five.

I would also reduce preseason games from 8 to 2 and instead use that time for a longer training camp so coaches can have more impact on their teams (both in preseason planning and with reduced regular season schedule leading to more practice time).

We would see much better basketball. More well prepared teams. Better dribbled teams offensively and defensively. More team orientated basketball. It would lead to much more enjoyable games to watch.

I think this would be an ideal NBA too.  You have it laid out really nicely.  I think more than 2 preseason games though... even the NFL has 4.  4 would be fine and I think helps work out some kinks and gives new players some experience and time for chemistry to build.  It'd be nice if they cut out some franchises too.  I like cutting down to 24 with only 4 teams per conference (maybe 6) making the playoffs.

But there is 0.0000000% chance of this happening though.

Not enough revenue, which is what the league runs on.

We've had an 82 game season since 1967.

Are injuries high this season or is it just coincidentally happening to more high profile players?

From the Celtics standpoint, we've actually gotten off easy.  Our 2 best players are still relatively healthy.  Yes, our 3rd best guy is out for the season... as well as some late 1st rounder rookie, but it could be a lot worse.  Last year we had half our team missing for the playoffs.

And 80 games from 1961 til then (with one weird 81-gamer in there).  So 50+ years with at least 80 games a year.

Honestly, it'd be nice to see a somewhat shorter schedule, but a lot of teams are effectively doing this already by sitting their stars for 4-8 games during the regular season.  Kobe was an exception because the Lakers are struggling just to make the playoffs, and Kobe doesn't ever wants to sit and has more power than anyone in that organization but the owners.

But I don't think you can chalk the injuries up to something that's been a constant for multiple generations of players.

Add Kenneth Faried.

For an ankle sprain?  I think those happen a lot.

Add Kenneth Faried.
First Gallinari and now Farried.
I hope it's a sprain and rest till the playoffs is enough.

The are winning againts Portland tonight. The next 2 games are against Milwaukee and Phoenix. So that third seed is a lock. And home court Nuggets are deadly.
