The trade:

Lakers got: C Dwight Howard, F Earl Clark and G Chris Duhon (via Orlando)

Magic got: G Arron Afflalo, F Al Harrington (via Denver), F Moe Harkless, C Nikola Vucevic (via Philadelphia) and F Josh McRoberts and G Christian Eyenga (via Los Angeles).  They also received five draft picks over five years.

The 76ers got: C Andrew Bynum (via the Lakers) and G Jason Richardson (via Orlando)

The Nuggets got: F Andre Iguodala (via Philadelphia)

Philly obviously is the big loser here, especially if the don't re-sign Bynum.  Giving up the emerging Vucavic was a colossal mistake, and losing Harkless and a first round pick hurts.  They gave away Iggy for basically nothing.

The Nuggets got Iggy for a solid wing and a tweener vet with an outsized contract.  Good move for them, although they had to give up a 2014 first.

Getting Howard, even this season's gimpy version, was a win for the Lakers, especially since all they had to give up was out of service Andrew Bynum and a 2017 first, and a 2015 second.  If he re-signs there, and gets back to pre-back surgery form, it will be a big win for LA.

Orlando was faced with a classic a dollar for a bunch of quarters trade, but they ended up getting a handful of quarters, at least.  Vucavic had a breakout year, averaging 13 and 12 in only 33 minutes. he's second in the league in RPG to Howard, by .4, and is actually snagging more rebounds per minutes than D-Ho.  Harkless looks like he's going to be a solid wing, and if he can find the stroke from three, could be a big time scorer.  Great size and a lot of athleticism, and he's still a teenager. Afflalo, a solid role player, was lost in his role as scorer on a lousy team, and his efficiency was as poor as his rookie year, but he did manage to average 16.5 ppg, a career high.   Harrington barely got on the court, and still has two years and $15m on his deal.

Orlando's second worst record should get them a very good player this summer, probably either an explosive scoring wing, like Ben McLemore, or a rim defending big, like Nerlins Noel.  If the final bounty for Howard ends up being Vucavic, Harkless, Afflalo two future firsts, Harrington's contract, and Noel after the Magic suffering through one bad season, that's a huge win for the Magic.

They'll be in one more year of salary hell until the overpaid pieces like Turkoglu who were there to surround Howard clear off the books, but if they can spin his expiring $12m deal for a couple of vets to surround their young players, the rebuilding could be less painful.  The only cap cloggers after next season will be one more year of Harrington at $7m and BBD at $6m.  Orlando, especially if they can move one of these deals, could be a FA player in Lebron Summer II after the 2014 season.

Well, this is a lot more complicated than it ought to have been when they made the trade. I still don't know if the Magic 'won', but they sure aren't the losers. We should all thank Philly for screwing themselves so badly here in hindsight.

I still think the Magic ultimately lost, at least in comparison to what they could've gotten from either NJ (All-Star center Lopez), or Houston (basically bailed out of salary cap hell, toronto's lottery pick, etc..). But in the trade actually committed, they either ended up on top or second best, dependent on whether or not Howard resigns with La.

I could almost see Orlando taking Noel and putting him as a 4 next to vucevic, but then that leaves BBD on the bench again.

After that depending how they go. they can try and snag up a wing in parker or wiggans next year.

what draft picks did Orlando get?  Without knowing that, it basically reads to me like the Magic got Vuecivic and a truckload of garbage for the most dominant big man alive... so no... they didn't win.

Oh I guess the 15th pick, Harkless, is only 19 years old... he's a good piece too.

Vuvecic is a 22-year-old stud picked 16th in the 2011 draft--for anyone who says a a good center with near-term payoff can't be found at the level in the draft that the C's will actually be picking this year.

That's not to say that another Vuvecic will be available, but looking at Steven Adams, for example, who's to say that there won't be?

The Magic will receive Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic, rookie swingman Moe Harkless, forward Josh McRoberts, forward Christian Eyenga, a first-round pick from either the Nuggets or the New York Knicks in 2014, a protected first-round pick from the Sixers, a protected first-round pick from the Lakers in 2017, a second-round pick from the Nuggets in 2013 and a conditional second-rounder from the Lakers in 2015. In addition to Howard, the Lakers will also receive Earl Clark and Chris Duhon from the Magic.

Also Afflalo. But they lost Earl Clark.

I hear you, the magic and the sixers definitely lost big time. At least they got something though. Vucevic is the 2nd best rebounder (stat-wise) in the league behind guess who....Dwight Howard.

No, the Nuggets did.

Somebody had to take the fall for the Lakers getting Howard.   Orlando could have done worse I guess.  Nuggets did good.

Philly got thrown under the bus taking  Bynum.   The people responsible for this debacle need to be fired.

The NBA powers at be let the Lakers get away with highway robbery once again.  Bynum was worn out and somehow they got the BEST big man in the league on trade for one who would never see the court again.

Philly , that is called being desperate for a big NBA center to take that gamble, the BIG MAN still needed and prized, note , you don't see the LAKERS trading away all their bigs to play small ball .
