On The 3's He Keep On Missing, but for what i've noticed jump shots really works for him very well

A lot of unnecessary blame and hate gets placed on JET.

As a matter of fact, he's shooting just about as well as last year on FGs, 3PAs and FTs. Nothing different apart from the fact that he's shooting just 8.2 FGs a game. As opposed to 13.2 last year.

If you want more points, you're gonna have to give him more shots. We got just what we were looking for from Jason and I'm down with that.

Stop complaining!

Excatly! I guess people are mad because they thought he would be shooting Ray-type FG% but he isnt Ray and he is shooting about the same as last year last time i checked

Dirk can do both and the fact that Terry is limited now to more spot up shooting sets that Ray Allen ran (that Terry struggles to get open on) or pick and pop has really hindered his game.

He needs to put up more shots to be more effective, but he just can't get himself open (due to the game plan as well as his age) and has had a bad habit of missing some wide open shots. Even if they don't really make a major difference in his shooting %, those are the plays that stick in peoples' minds and lead to the anger with his play.

I think it's rather clear that in Miami, Ray has much more than just a "spot up shooting" game. JET definitely has more than a "spot up shooting" game as well, so I'm pretty confused by your post.

He is referring to the spot up shooting he did here.

I'm not saying that either has just a spot up shooting game.

What I mean is that Ray got most of his looks on this team running off screens and on kick out spot up shots. In Miami his role has expanded more to include some solid pick and pop/roll sets where he has the ball in his hands (something he didn't do a lot of here in Boston).

Terry has struggled to consistently get open coming off of those same/similar screen plays that we ran for Ray. And because he hasn't had the same success with those screens and we don't have the same quality bigs that Terry was able to utilize his pick and roll game with (KG i much more pick and pop), he has been relegated to more of a spot up shooter than he has been in the past. As such he isn't getting the same number of looks and isn't able to put up the same numbers.

He is hitting similar percentages, but the numbers aren't what people are expecting because he can't get open enough to put up the same points.

I'm thinking it's more about Doc not utilizing Ray correctly. He appears to be making the same mistake with JET.

Well, firstly it could be possible he's not getting open as much because we don't have Rondo, but JET wasn't very good when Rondo was here either and it doesn't take much skill to pass to a curling man. He also has been given the keys to run the second-unit offense, so he should be getting the shots. However, we have more shooters in Boston than he had in Dallas, and everybody needs shots. Plus, lack of offensive rebounds and a slower pace generally means lesser shot attempts overall. I think this all contributes to his drop in shot attempts (13.2 -> 8.2) Plus, that five minute drop in playing time.

Hopefully he'll be able to get back to where he should be in the playoffs, when the rotation is shortened and he feels comfortable taking risky shots.

He is hitting similar percentages, but the numbers aren't what people are expecting because he can't get open enough to put up the same points.

Yep, I agree. I'm sure if he shot more, he'd get more points (duh) but then we'd be complaining about him being a ball-hog.

Agree with most of what you say, connor. Most fans like to criticize every Celtics player so there ain't much you can do :)

rondo is hold ball before pass, jj barrea is an attacking player PG like derrick rose and westbrook

kg is not pick n' roll type,
brandon bass is to small, he don't do pick n' roll
i want to try melo for pick n' roll
shavlik randolph can do it
wilcox is a low post scorer who does have a weak defense
white always DNP
green is just a defender who can score and defends, also small

if we have line-up of
rondo/bradley
terry
pierce
varejao (pick n' roll) or pau gasol (pick n' roll)
kg (help defense)

i think terry will do better that you all expect
last year
rondo holds the ball, ray allen circles, look for open shot, hit 3's (problem, ray misses = no rebounds)

same as rondo terry, it's not working anymore
every teams knows that play, miami heat knows that play
the good thing to this rondo out, there's a good ball movements,
again, terry is good at jump shots, i was hoping bass to do a pick n' roll which he really sucks, and every time terry misses a shots, no one dares to grab an offensive rebounds

in dallas tyson is the rebounder
dirk for pick n' roll, terry attacks, tyson chandler pushes bosh outside, it really works well,
that is also what okc is missing, that is why marcin gortat in rumors on OKC, because he can do a pick n' roll, which can give a threat to miami heat,

AGREE?

I have hope that JT will come up big in the playoffs.  Watching him in the 2011 finals was a joy.  Especially the title-clinching game 6.  That was less than 2 years ago. So...we'll see.

CORRECTION

Jason Terry was a Good Player.

I hope I am proven wrong in the playoffs.  I have never thought he fit the half court offense style we ran once we got him.   He shoots better in transition than in the half court.  Some guys need motion to shoot and some are spot up shooters and a few can do both.   I think he is the former.

Down five points a game, is a harsh drop in scoring.  It could be our system.   I think KG could have been the pick and roll guy.

The JET is just on cruise control during the regular season, don't worry about him he'll be money in the playoffs.

Terry has been a good player for his career, and has had an okay season this year.  However, overall he has stunk in crunch time this year, which historically has been one of his stronger areas.

Terry hasn't filled the role that many had hoped he would.  He was envisioned as a guy who could take over games when KG and Pierce weren't feeling it, and thus far, he hasn't been that guy.

I like the Terry/Pierce pick and pop, have had success with it this season.
