Bass is a $4 million a year player.

This sounds about right,.  So the answer to the question is NO.

4 million a year...so 12 million in 3 years... the problem is, if ever he only gets 4 million, with that kind of performance, any big man at around 4 million? if you wish to trade him?

It depends on which version of him we're getting.  The version that we've seen over the last few weeks is worth that contract.  The version that we saw for the rest of the season did not.

I think he may have gotten the MLE last year as a free agent.  His year has been dissapointing but playing better recently.  We really need to not give any long term contracts (except maybe extend AB to affordable contract if he wants security) if we ever wish to be under the cap.  I would be happy to have him for five million the next two years.  I think he is at least as good as JET.

Decent payment for him. I think it's approximately fair value. It really all depends on how good he is next year (if we're still contenders)

If we're not contenders, bad deal. If we are, it's fine. 20mil is about fair.

The version of last year, the version for most of this season and the version of the last few weeks doesn't deserve this contract or a role on a team with any aspirations.  A PF who can't rebound, defend or pass at all, I mean, at all, isn't worth anything.  It's almost too cruel that the only thing he does well, shoot mid-range shots, doesn't complement Garnett's game and is not a valuable skill in this day and age.

Although not a rim protector I think Bass is a good defender.  His rebounding is subpar for the position.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
He's a solid bench big man that can stretch the floor and guard centers and power forwards.
He's pretty reliable and there are plenty of teams that will pay 5-7 million for him.
He works hard and is effective in the playoffs. I think he actually gets more motivated for the playoffs because the veterans on the team like him get motivated. He's the kind of guy that likes to be led and guided by guys like Pierce and KG.
Watch his defense and rebounding step up come playoff time.

For a guy that is:
*relatively injury free
*can hit that stretch jump shot and his free throws
*give you a guaranteed 10 points and 5 rebounds minimum a game
*play playoff starter caliber 1v1 and help defense

6-7 million is about market value- particularly after his season last year. Wouldn't surprise me if he was offered a few million more than that for some lower tier teams.
I think it's a good salary for trade value as well.

Also think about what other players getting his salary do.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Bass is worth 6 million a year . . . if he's on a contender and he's a nice backup PF or in a starting lineup surrounded by talented players who can create their own shot as well as easy looks for him.

On a rebuilding team like the Celtics?  He's worth 4 million or less, but the truth is he really doesn't have a place, except perhaps as a veteran leader on the floor and in the locker room (he seems to have good work ethic and a nice attitude).

The Celtics are not a rebuilding team. They could be at some point in the near future, but they're not there yet.
