He's a top ten player of all-time. He's had an amazing career and earned has how much -- maybe $200 million?
I am not crying for him. I don't get joy when anyone gets injured -- even Kobe. However, this is not like when Magic retired after revealing he was HIV+. Despite my dislike for him and hatred for the Lakers, I believe I did cry that day (of course, everyone at the time thought it was a death sentence). But this is torn achilles tendon and even if he never plays NBA basketball again, he is still a young wealthy, intelligent man who has the potential of a charmed life ahead of him.
If he never plays again, I won't care.
I don't think anyone was really expecting you to cry after Kobe Bryant suffers a career ending injury. And obviously nobody was even remotely comparing it to Magic's premature retirement due to HIV. Even the most sympathetic of us are basically saying, "I hate the Lakers, dislike Kobe the person, but I respect him as a player and this kind of sucks."
Crying or comparing him to Magic's first retirement seems like a weird reaction emotionally, right?
Fundamental difference....Kobe isn't lying about his condition.
Hard to let this just pass. You are saying Magic lied about being HIV+? That's the first I've heard of it. Sorry if I misunderstood you. If I didn't misunderstand, please explain how you know this.
You didn't. I never bought into it to begin with....IMHO...earvin has parlayed a lie and false victimhood into fame and fortune far beyond what even a star like his would have garnered post-career.
Wow.
My Uncle Conrad was HIV+ from the late 80's until it turned into AIDS and he died in 2010. You can be HIV+ and beat AIDA if you had the money to spend on the medicinal cocktails in the 90's and 00's.
I fully believed Magic. Never once doubted him. Can't see how people could, especially given the flack the man took for coming out and saying he had the disease. In the 80's and 90's saying you were HIV+ was opening yourself up to being called a homosexual or a drug user.
Both happen to Magic. He lost endorsements. he lost friends. He lost a portion of his basketball career.
Unless Magic is some super genius that knew that HIV would be cured and that he would be a tremendous business man and make millions over millions out of basketball, I don't think your conspiracy theory makes much sense.
