personally, i dont think we have enough to make it to the finals this year. we'll get exposed some way or the other.

so honestly, if the celts are to go down, i would love for them to play miami in the first round and make lebron's life a living hell for a week or two. it would be a 5 or 6 game series, but an extremely difficult one for miami to deal with.

it would be such a physical/bad blood series. we'll rough them up. then second round, chicago will rough them up. hopefully by the ecf, knicks have enough to beat them.

im not saying im a knicks fan, but look, we had garbage years through the 90s, and the knicks had some atrocious years in the 00s (eddy curry for mvp anyone?). no point in harping on the sudden increase in popularity for them. celtics fans rose up out of nowhere in 2007-2008 season. it happens.

if the knicks can de-throne miami, i have serious respect for them.

To be honest, I'd be surprised if we get passed the Knicks in the first round.  Cs have showed me nothing in the past month.  Not even with KG and PP are we looking like a team to be reckoned with.

Our championship caliber defense left when Tibs went to Chicago.

I don't think we're as bad as the 7th seed if doc knew how to coach, soooo....yeah.
I don't think theres much else Doc could have done to put this team in a better position. We lost a ton of talent and had to make due with what was left over. If PP and KG didn't run into some predictable injuries towards the end due to their age, we probably could have climbed a few spots. But even then we were most likely looking at opening up on the road and as you said 2-7 are fairly close in terms of talent so it really doesn't make a difference.

Normally I would agree with you about a season not ending in a championship being considered a failure if you are a legit contender (teams like the Hornets, Portland and Washington are probably just happy with the progress of some of their young guys).

But I think that things change when your season is derailed by injuries. Thats out of your control and its hard to have the same expectations. At this point I'll be happy as long as we stay competitive and don't get bowled over. If we can beat the Knicks (which is totally possible) thats a success. If we sneak past Indiana I'm impressed. If we beat the Heat its a miracle and if we win it all I'll start building a shrine to KG and PP.
