Smith is also a better passer and rebounder than Green. Those are skills that make him more versatile, IMHO.
But Jeff Green is much more efficient scorer. If we don't have any scoring options once Pierce retire, we should embrace mediocrity for years to come.
IF possible, I'd like to get Smith without trading Green.
That doesn't happen unless you trade Pierce and Pierce isn't going to Atlanta.
Also, just because Green is more efficient scoring doesn't make him more versatile, which is what the conversation was about.
Personally, I wouldn't trade Green for Smith. Now trade Green for Milsap or Gasol or Gortat or some other very good to great front court player that can give this team some post scoring presence and defense, that I would do. I would love to see the C's send Terry and Green to LA with the China 3 for Pau Gasol for one year.
Gasol/Garnett/Melo
Sullinger/Bass
Pierce/Free Agent or 1st round pick
Bradley/Lee/Crawford
Rondo/Free agnet or 1st round pick
Go for the one last shot at the title with a crew like that and then wipe gobs of salary off the roster the following year and start from scratch with a young core of Rondo/Bradley/Lee/Crawford/Sully/Melo/2013 1st rounder/2014 1st rounder and a bunch of cap space.
