Good Grief.

16: Kelly Olynyk   Boston Celtics
COLLEGE: Gonzaga   AGE: 21  HT: 7-0  WT: 238   POS: C
Analysis: The Celtics definitely need size, and Olynyk is the sort of stretch big man that the team has liked in the past. His low-post game is still so-so, but he's a very difficult matchup on the high post. His ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket is special for a player his size. He could be a nice complement, in the long run, with Jared Sullinger.

Please save me. I know we have no sway over the Celtic front office. I know it is still ages before the draft. I know the chances of Ford being right at this point is slim.

However, if it had any hope of working I would start a campaign to keep us from drafting this guy. The last thing we need is a slow, nailed to the floor, bad on the defensive end stretch 4/5. We could get any number of them from Europe as a cheap free agent.

The game is getting faster and faster with perimeter players meaning more and more to a teams success. How in the world would we compete with Olynyk and Sullinger on the front line. One slow undersized banger and one slow undersized center who likes to play at the elbow. We would get killed down low on defense. Plus, what does that mean for Fab Melo? That we just wasted a first round pick for nothing? With the new CBA, draft picks are worth so much more now. You can not foul them up. Olynyk would be a flagrant foul.

Here is the thing though: if we are drafting for need, then the only position we should be drafting for is Center.  I personally think that you should always draft BPA no matter what, but guys making mock drafts usually role play that the team will pick based on need.

Gorgui Dieng (moving up the boards) and Cody Zeller (moving down the boards) both look okay, although it's probably wishful thinking either will fall to us.  I know Ford has Dieng going way after us, but I see him going 14th or 15th just to troll me.

Other interesting players are Glen Robinson (6-6 SF) and the Euro dude Dario Saric (6-10 SF).  There's nothing that really wows you, though.

If we are going "big", I rather get someone with spunk and energy.
We are lacking "nasty".

Too early to predict an exact player.

I want dieng. His offence is improving. If he doesn't fall to us I want giannis adetokunbo. Big point forward guy who is still growing. 7-3 wingspan and he has enormous hands which enable to use the basketball like a tennis ball. Either of those players I am satisfied with

I actually think he would not be terrible for us. He likes to bang inside and plays hard. Although he is not fast he runs the floor well once he gets a head of steam.

Both him and Sullinger are good with angles and sealing their men, and could be a problem when played together offensively. However, on defense playing two less than fleet of foot bigs without an ability to block shots could hurt us.

I would not be upset if we pick him but would prefer Austin, Gobert, Plumlee and maybe even Dieng to him. If these guys are off the board I could live with Olynyk as our pick.

If we are going "big", I rather get someone with spunk and energy.

You should watch some tape of Olynyk, the way he seals his man on the offensive end has plenty of nasty to it. He throws his body around as a weapon.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
He's ready to contribute right now. I'd rather get Olynyk than a project who won't play for a year or two.
I like Marcus Smart

I desperately want us to pick someone who is a tough and athletic defender, particularly in the paint.

Olynyk is not that guy.

Dieng might be, even if he is 29 years old.

Heck yeah. We need help maintaining the mediocrity we've become right away.

I'd rather go for potential in this draft, regardless of position.  Not too interested in Olynyk, even though there are some aspects of his game that I really like.

I am honestly hoping we pick Jamaal Franklin. I love his game and I think he will be an amazing pro. He is another coming of The Matrix. He will be perfect for our defense first, attacking style we are looking to move forward with.
