Good Grief.
16: Kelly Olynyk Boston Celtics
COLLEGE: Gonzaga AGE: 21 HT: 7-0 WT: 238 POS: C
Analysis: The Celtics definitely need size, and Olynyk is the sort of stretch big man that the team has liked in the past. His low-post game is still so-so, but he's a very difficult matchup on the high post. His ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket is special for a player his size. He could be a nice complement, in the long run, with Jared Sullinger.
Please save me. I know we have no sway over the Celtic front office. I know it is still ages before the draft. I know the chances of Ford being right at this point is slim.
However, if it had any hope of working I would start a campaign to keep us from drafting this guy. The last thing we need is a slow, nailed to the floor, bad on the defensive end stretch 4/5. We could get any number of them from Europe as a cheap free agent.
The game is getting faster and faster with perimeter players meaning more and more to a teams success. How in the world would we compete with Olynyk and Sullinger on the front line. One slow undersized banger and one slow undersized center who likes to play at the elbow. We would get killed down low on defense. Plus, what does that mean for Fab Melo? That we just wasted a first round pick for nothing? With the new CBA, draft picks are worth so much more now. You can not foul them up. Olynyk would be a flagrant foul.
