Assume that DJ White and Fab Melo are not likely to play and Doc is choosing between Bass, Green, Randolph, and Wilcox.

While I think that matchups matter, if Doc had to go with a set combination of two players at the 4 and 5 against a generic team while Kevin Garnett is resting on the bench, what would be your first option?

Give your first choice against most teams and use the thread to discuss how you would adjust it to matchups against different teams.

Bass/Wilcox or Green/Bass or Green/Wilcox.

Most likely the first with Green at SF/SG

Shav and C-Dub—I like my bigs to hang around the rim.

Isn't that basically anyone but Shavlik?

When one of the Knicks' "bigs" is Carmelo Anthony it's nice to have one or two that can defend on the perimeter as well.

If you told me at the beginning of the year that by the end I'd be pining for Darko and Sully, I would not have believed it.

And yet...

I like the KG-Shav combo, to be honest.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
On talent alone it is obviously Green and Bass. I understand you may not be getting the very best rebounding out of those two, but it's not like Dikembe Mutombo or Dennis Rodman are on that list.

Any lineup that doesn't involve Bass at center is fine by me.  He is a about as terrible as it gets a a rebounder.  Bass and Green is an especially bad combination.

When KG is resting one of Shav/Wilcox needs to be on the floor.  My preference is Shav.

I'd like to see more of Shav/Wilcox.

The few times they've been on the court together that I've seen, I thought we really had a decent inside presence for once. It gives us a really different look, rebounds and has great pick n' roll potential with Pierce and Green on the floor.

I like Shav/KG for floor spacing as well. KG spends most of his time these days outside of the paint so it works well, plus his defense can help mitigate the mistakes Shav makes. And then Bass/KG for when KG is going to play more inside/has a smaller center match-up.

I like the idea of always having one big (KG/Wilcox/Shav) to anchor us and help space things and then matching with PFs.

I think it really depends on whether you have Pierce and Green out there at the same time at SF and SG or if its Lee et al. at SG.
