Green vs. Allen in 6th man voting?

I'm starting to think Green may finish better than Allen in the 6th man voting. I guess I'm looking for any moral victory I can get at this point for this season.

What do you think?

More generally I could see Green cracking the top 5 overall. I think JR Smith and Jack will be the top 2. KMart, J Crawford and Manu all will be up there too. But maybe Green beats out one of them, as well as Judas...

I'm not sure Allen has done anything special for Miami off the bench that differentiates him from say, James Jones.

At this point in his career, Ray is a spot-up shooter (albeit a great one).  Anything else he brings to his team is bonus.

As far as Sixth Man goes, I like Jack, Crawford, Smith, and Landry, in no particular order.

I think Ray will get few if any 6th man votes; Green may be held back because he's a starter now, too. 

Pretty sure JR Smith will win it because of his strong finish and the fact that he plays in NYC.

He's hit some big shots at the end of games, particularly earlier in the year. His shooting has been efficient.

He's had a good year. I'd call it worlds better than the year James Jones has had.

Green has played his best ball as a starter so it's kind of strange.  Not sure how voters would see it.

It'll probably be JR Smith, and he's been pretty deserving of winning it.

Don't get me wrong, I know Allen's been closing for Miami, and he's been hitting massive shots.

I'm just saying I don't think a guy who primarily shoots threes and brings little else to the table should win Sixth Man.  Those other guys I mentioned bring multiple things to the table; Allen doesn't.

He's started 22 and come off the bench for 53.

The rules say that the player just needs fewer starts than bench appearances, so he qualifies technically, but I'm not sure how heavy the starts are weighed against him.

Now I know Green was coming back from injury and also that he also might not have been playing all that well even after getting into NBA shape. But the people voting on this are not going to ignore the first half of this season like so many here seem to want to do. It happened. Is there a reasonable explanation for why it happened? Sure. But the people voting for this award are not going to care.

I would be very surprised if Green or Allen get any recognition for SMOY the same way I would be surprised if Sullinger got any recognition as ROY. Whole seasons count in this stuff not half seasons.

I don't know quite how voters evaluate the whole starting vs. off the bench difference.

I do agree about the whole year mattering, but my sense is that guys who start slow and finish strong get preference over guys who do it the other way.

Anderson's started even more games (19), BTW, and has similarly been more efficient starting, though the difference isn't as extreme. In either event I was assuming that no one on a team that bad would get serious consideration...the top vote-getters are almost always from good teams. (Which, I just realized, works against Green. Ouch.)
