John Wall is WAAAAY better than Rondo, at doing the "dougie" but basketball, nah, Rondo all day.

I haven't actually seen Rondo's Dougie...

Wall is about to become a max player, so the question is moot. Rondo is clearly more valuable on his present contract.

It would be really hard to gamble on the upside of a potential superstar who hasn't done anything yet against an all-star in his prime who is also a known quantity. I'm not saying Wall can't be better than Rondo, but no serious person is taking that bet at even odds.

I don't think the money value is that clear, because Rondo's contract isn't infinite. Take a look at the next 6 years, assuming Wall signs for the Max, then Rondo signs for max when his contract is up:

              Current      13-14          14-15       15-16     16-17       17-18        18-19         Total
 Wall           $5.90       $7.50     $13.67     $14.69     $15.72     $16.74     $17.77     $91.99
 Rondo     $11.00     $12.00     $13.00     $14.66     $15.76     $16.94     $18.21     $101.57

Now, this year is over, so it ends up being about 4.5 million cheaper to have Wall starting next year, then if each gets the max allowable when their next contracts are up. So the question is, is Rondo going to get the max? Will he be upset if we low-ball him since he probably has been underpaid on this current contract?

Instead of the max (which is 5 years, but only looking at the first 4 years to keep it the same length as Wall's), which would be 4 years/65.57 million, he'd need to settle for 4 years/61 million or less to be equal or cheaper than wall. Would someone offer more?

WOW. You're absolutely right, VT. With all of this "pay John Wall" talk, I assumed he was a free agent after this season, whereas Rondo is under Celtic control for two more.

Rondo is better at shooting, passing, rebounding, and D. Wall is better at hitting his FTs. So...no, hes not better than rondo.

Ask this question on any other forum and you would be laughed at.

I'll say this --

John Wall is currently having a better regular season than Rondo's ever had.  The level Wall is at right now is higher than any level Rondo's been at during the regular season.

But the playoffs is a different story, and we'll have to wait at least until next season to see whether or not Wall can play like this in the post-season.

Disagree. I would call it a different and as good regular season as Rondo has ever had, not sure I would say better. Their strengths lie in different areas.

His level of scoring is better than we've seen from Rondo in the regular season. Is his level of anything else higher, or even close to as high?

Wall is helping his team win.  The Wiz were a low lottery team without him, now they are playing above 0.500

He must be doing something right and that isn't a particularly good team he is carrying.

He may not keep it up; he may not ever get a chance to show what he can do leading a good team, but I think it is fair to give him his due for what he is doing with this team this season.

I hope people in here start to realize how good John Wall is and how much his game has improved since last year. I also hope his performance won't cost the Celtics the game...

Rondo is "better" now.

But Wall will likely be better.

Wall has the most potential of any PG in the league. Remember the hype out of college was that he was the best PG prospect since Jason Kidd or even dating back to Isaiah.

However, he was overhyped and went to a terrible situation. Washington was filled with nothing but knuckleheads that were a bad influence on him.

I still think if he was brought up in the Celtics organization he would likely reach his full potential much sooner. Surrounded by guys like Pierce, KG, Doc? Yea it would have did him some good.

Wall (when he's at his best) is like a perfect mix of Rondo and Westbrook. However, the Wizards have to keep building around him and put good influences on the team. Its no secret he's playing better with guys like Nene and Okafor instead of guys like Blatche and McGee.

Even though DeMarcus Cousins is a knucklehead (however he is a very talented big man) if he ever joined up with Wall...they could do some damage.

I'd take both on the Celtics (if for whatever reason Danny wanted to let go of Rondo)

Among PG's, I have Rondo ranked 3-5.  I have Wall ranked around 11-13.

Rondo is much better at this point, but Wall is playing well right now and has a very high ceiling.

eh..I think Wall is in the top 10 now. Name 10 pgs better?

off the top of my head..

Paul
Rose
Westbrook
Rondo
Tony Parker
Steph Curry

Thats about it as far as guys being clearly better.
Wall/Irving/Lillard/Jrue are all similar guys right now imo.

I didn't say that he was playing poorly or that he wasn't helping his team win.

Edit: Rondo's gone through stretches during the regular season when many consider him to be playing better than any other pg in the game. Are you saying he's playing at a level higher than that?
