asik is a joke.

10/11/1 says your wrong. Asik would probably be a perfect fit for the C's. Big body rebounds extremely well. rondo passing when he is open/ pick and role. Id pay 8 mil a year to someone that is gonna give you 10 points and 10 boards a night that clogs up the interior

problem is howard will be coax , tricked, lied, tied, kidnapped , you name it to stay in LA,   itall about MONEY , TV contracts,   they want his star power and ability to sell TV time .

I don't think Howard is another Shaq or ever gonna be that good..  once Kobe leaves so does the hopes of championships till they can steal more players for nothing.

I really hate defending Howard at this point. I really do.

But in the interest of veritability (made it up?), I think you're neglecting to mention just how obscenely bad the magic teams were that won solely because of Howard. You're talking about second best players being Hedo or Rashard Lewis, and still getting to the finals.

Which again is why I hate Howard right now, and Kobe, and everyone. There is no reason on paper why the lakers should be wondering if they're gonna make the playoffs.

Yeah if Asik is a joke, so are Noah, Tyson Chandler, and everything Hasheem Thabeet was supposed to be, not who he is...who he's SUPPOSED to be.

asik is a joke.

This post is a joke.

Asik is a better rebounding center then anyone we've had this era.

Yea, Asik is exactly what we need. He would immediately fix our rebounding issues and give us the defensive presence in the middle we so desperately need.

true.....I wanted Asik when he was on the Bulls .....I knew he would go for big dollars.....he is built like a tank, not injury prone and loves the contact down low.

Guys like ASik are at a premium , he can battle Roy Hibbert and Chandler  ....I would be all about having him on the Celtics.

Still want Cousins most, but 10X rather get ASIK than GORTAT.

What Asik makes is pretty much what guys like him make. DeAndre Jordan, JaVale McGee, Joakim Noah, Andris Biedrins(when he was a double double guy and not one of the worst players in the league), and Anderson Varejao are all very similar players and all make within a couple million of Asik.

Also glad to see that such a scenario is still possible if Howard signs in Houston and that it makes no sense for Houston to S&T with the Lakers.

looking at those guys now, u make an argument.  however, at the time they made it to the finals, both of those guys were playing at a much higher level and were still in their prime.  howard and the aforementioned, along with jameer who was an all star during that time, make up a very good core at that time. right now, not so much :D

Asik is a euro guy.  He is the opposite of soft.  He plays with an edge all the time.  That being said, he comes with a huge price tag.  That is the only reason any team would hesitate to add him.

Why is Asik's price tag huge?

He gets paid less money than Jeff Green over the same amount of years and the guy is averaging 2 points a game less than Green, 8 rebounds more per game than Green and has very similar blocks and steals than does Green. they are both the same age. Is Jeff Green's contract a huge price tag?

And as I said, given his stats, he's getting paid what a ton of similar players with similar stats are getting paid. Its not a huge price tag. Its pretty much at market value given his skill set.

1.  Houston plays at a completely different pace than the Celtics.  They average over a 100 ppg.  scoring 10 in Houston is a LOT different than scoring 10 with the Celtics.
2.  Asik is a starter in Houston and plays 30 mpg.  Jeff Green comes of the bench and plays less minutes in Boston.  As a starter Jeff is averaging 20ppg.
3.  Asik has no offense.  All his points are in transition and put backs.  Jeff Green is a complete, two way player.
4.  Asik can only play one position in the NBA.  A position that has very few dominant players.  Jeff Green is extremely versatile and most dominant players in the league are big guards and forwards.  Defensively a guy that can cover Lebron, Melo, Durant, Kobe, Bosh, Boozer etc. is more valuable than one that can cover centers in a league where no center averages close to 20ppg.
5.  Asik is developing, meaning he can have tons of minutes in the youngest team in the league.  In Boston, he would be hard pressed to find minutes as he has averages a lot of fouls, turnovers and is a very poor free throw shooter.  Jeff Green has none of these flaws.

He's certainly overpaid.  Chicago chose not to match his contract because they estimated he wasn't worth the cost.  It's also not fair to compare his stats to a guy on his first year off heart surgery.  Compare their career stats to see the difference in their values.

Omer Asik is pretty darn good. We're talking:

Top-5 rebounder (currently 2nd overall  to Howard and 2nd per minute to Reggie Evans)
Top-10 defender (#1 overall according to Synergy and huge +/- numbers)
10th in block per minute (centers)

10 ppg on 55% shooting - yeah he's not much on the offensive end but there are certainly worse. Houston's pace is misleading, because he also only plays 30 MPG.

An elite defender and elite rebounder with good shot-blocking and passable offense, who plays center. That's significantly better than Perk in his prime and we all seemed to like him alright.

And he is only 26 years old. Not even entering his prime yet.
