Pitt is in shock when Adams declared as it is thought he needs another year to mature. He is very talented for a big man (and he is a very big guy) and runs well. He could develop into an excellent pro but he is not advanced in his offensive moves and although he is a good shot blocker and isn't afraid of contact, he really doesn't know how to position himself well for rebounds or defense. His upside is huge and there is a chance he might drop to the Celtics. Concern for me is the ability of the Celtics to develop big men since Clifford Ray left.

With one big man project on the celtics should be looking at the draft to pick up another one?

Or would it be good to have some competition in the developmental department?

I dont know anything about the guy, or much about any of the draft class for that matter. I just know that I dont think we are going to see an immediate game changer drop to us this year, just a couple development guys if anything at all.

it sounds as if melo decided to enter the draft for a second time.  ;D what the heck, if ainge thinks this guy is worth it, i am sure he can get him.

draftexpress had adams being picked at #19. certainly within range for ainge.

To be fair to Adams he has much more potential than Melo. He has the body to be a serious center in the NBA and yet is still an athlete (more athletic than Gortat for instance). I can see him putting a body on most big men if he had a clue of how to do it. The problem is that in college he can dominate lessor competition and when he runs against somebody of real talent, his lack of knowledge shows.

not sure I want to invest in another big man that requires at least a year in D league if not more like Melo.

this kid would be an investment in the post-KG/PP era like Melo which isn't necessarily bad but we really need to get someone that can provide some help for next year if possible.

The comment about developing this guy, as well as Melo, without Clifford Ray is definitely a legit concern.

This team needs a big in the worst way, I would be happy if Adams was the one we selected although Isaiah Austin is at the top of my list. I think the Celtics have a good chance to get a solid big in the 15-18 range.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I'd take him if he's in range.

He is sort of similar with Fab as he's still figuring out the game, but like Fab, he has the physical and athletic tools to be successful. He's by far a bit ahead when it comes to his post moves. Willing defender and runs the floor well.

The question is will we be okay with having two project big guys (who are big) or should we draft a sure thing.

I like him personally, I think he's more than ready than Fab is coming in. Sure he still has A TON to learn but unlike Fab, I think his feel for the game is better.

And as for developing bigs w/o Clifford Ray, why not hire Chief? At worst he can teach the kids how to use their big bodies to be relentless on the boards and be a defensive stalwart. Having two 7 footers with the ability and potential to dominate defensively may need a teacher who knows how to play defensively. Then let KG teach them to post up.  ;D

Chronologically, perhaps.

But who's been playing basketball longer? My bet is Adams.

So this team needs bigs and we're supposed to draft a guy who probably won't be ready to see the floor for another 2 years? I hope Danny drafts BPA if that's this  Adams guy so be it, but I doub that.

Being the lurker that I am (and being from New Zealand as well)I was going to raise this topic. I was listening to these reports on the sports station and there is a heap of interest in this being that Steve is a Kiwi himself (His half sister Valarie is an Olympic gold medalist for NZ). Am very interested to hear everyones thoughts on the subject particularly since his college career hasn't been widely reported over here- plus secretly it would be awesome to have a New Zealander on the C's roster!!  ;D

Sorry i have never seen him play, but judging from his stats im very surprised he is rated so high. Just my opinion but this guy didnt even dominate the NCAA and if you ask me he screams flop at me. I dont think that he is better than Melo (Stat wise), and i personally cant stand Melo right now.

Lets draft a player that actually can contribute instead of a raw project this time.

Everyone knows New Zealand is a mecca for basketball talent!  I think it's risky and we ought to pass.   We have high school teams here in the USA that could beat their national team.

Why would they have drafted Sully last year, when they already had 3J?
