James, Wade, Chalmers out... AGAIN

I basically think coaches should be able to do what they want as long as it's okay with the players - Doc was talking about how he likes to give guys a night off and if they are older, it makes all the sense in the world.

The problem is the lack of consistency. The Spurs never should have been fined such a hefty amount for resting their older players on the 4th game in five nights. It seems as thought Spoelstra is almost trying to avoid such a fine by 'proving' that his players really are hurt by resting them two games in a row.

This is basically what I was about to state.
I don't have anything against Spoelstra for sitting his players just like I had no issues with Pop doing it.
My  problem is the lack of consistency with the front office.

Here is the thing that alot of you dont realize, those 3 players have injuries not major but still injuries so should the league fine them for resting their injured player? I mean just realize how stupid that sounds giving a team a fine for not playing players that have injuries.

The Spurs were resting their players and never reported that none of them were injured(if any were injured) so they got fined.
The Heat are resting their players but they have reported injuries so they wont get fined and they shouldn't.

Exactly that is what i just said, the Heat did the smart thing and reported their injuries so they wont and shouldnt get fined, the Spurs on the other hand didnt report any injuries so they got fined for resting their players in a national televised game.
I don't think Spurs deserved to get fined but it was kind of their fault for not reporting any minor injuries and just flat out saying they were resting their players.

That would be the best way to handle it but i really doubt seeing it.

I just find this thread pointless though as OP is whining about the NBA not fining the Heat for resting their INJURED players

If the Heat wanted to rest their star players they would rest Bosh instead of Chalmers but they are resting their injured players

I think the other major problem here is that when Pop rested his guys, he was basically giving a huge middle finger to the league - not listing any injuries and was basically upset with the scheduling [4th game in 5 days, 6th in a row on the road going against the defending champions]. Pop may have been trying to prove that he was bigger than the league and Stern put him in his place.

Now that other major teams are doing something similar [and have been for many many years], I totally agree with others that the best way for the front office to handle it is swallow their pride and give back SA their 500k.

This has become commonplace in the NFL. Many even questioned the Patriots when they didn't rest their starters in their 16-0 season.

The Spurs also sent all of those players home well before the game tipped off.  The Heat all three of those guys at the arena.  Another big difference.

Problem is, one of them gets a $500k fine and the other gets SQUAT. I don't mind them sitting, but if they don't get a fine, it's just not fair. You can't just fine the Spurs $500k and do nothing when the Heat do it. Four games in five nights is tough too, and Duncan/Parker are old. LeBron? Wade? CHALMERS? Stupid is my only word.

if u want to debate the hypocracy of the nba fining the spurs and not the heat, i agree with u 100%. 

however the heat resting their players, i have no problem with.  it isnt about resting your "old" players so the are fresh for the playoffs...its about resting ur best players. the team should do what they feel helps the team

Exactly. The more troubling thing is why Stern isn't doing or saying anything about it. Is there a double standard here? Miami can do what the Spurs were fined for earlier? Stern shouldn't have fined San Antonio in the first place.
