Updating a previous item, Kevin Garnett has "inflammation of the ankle" and could miss up to two weeks.
It's a really big blow to the Celtics and fantasy owners, and it comes at the wrong time of their season. Garnett is not expected to play Tuesday against the Knicks or Wednesday against the Cavs, and he'll likely be reevaluated on a day-to-day basis after that point. Boston plays on Friday and Sunday before having four games next week as well, so Garnett could miss as many as eight games with the ankle injury.

Ainge says KG has "inflammation in the ankle" not sprain and he needs rest. He won't play Tuesday or Wednesday. Could miss 2 weeks #celtics

Isn't this what Ray had last year that eventually forced him to have surgery?

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
Hopefully this doesn't end up like 2009...

Face it, everyone, we are toast. I mean, we were barely hanging on as it was, and if KG's going to miss two weeks (which would be up to 8 games), we'll be lucky to hang on to the 7 seed, and based on Ainge's ... um, questionable ... past when reporting on KG's injuries, do you really think that KG will be "fine" even after two weeks off?

So we'll once again be literally limping into the playoffs (KG's ankle, Lee's ankle, Pierce's pinched nerve, no Rondo, no Sully).

One and done, folks, one and done.

Meh, this doesn't change much.

As it stood, without Rondo, there was no chance we were making the Finals.  Sure, we might still be able to make some noise, and knock off a team or two, but Garnett being out for a couple weeks doesn't change that.

Now, if he's done for the year, then yeah, there will be no advancing past the 1st round.  I'm just not in any position to make such a claim.  There's no way of knowing the extent of KG's injury, as this team has never really been very forthcoming with this type of information.

For all I know, this could just be a precautionary measure.  It might very well be a case of Danny/Doc figuring there is  little chance, at this point, of increasing our playoff seeding.  So, by that line of thinking, what would be the point of continuing to play KG for the time being.  Resting him for the playoffs would be the better choice.

Ultimately, I'm just not going to get worked up over this, as there is a lot that remains to be seen.

Hopefully hes fine in 2 weeks because if not then there goes our very slim chance of upsetting miami thrown out the window.

I agree. This really shouldn't surprise anyone considering KG's age and mileage on his body. The man is playing on his last leg (no pun intedned.) That's why I laugh when I see people say that we could compete next year as well, bringing back the same starting five. Haha. We'll be lucky if we can finish this season with our current starting 5.

Anyway, the silver lining to KG being out is it gives Jeff Green more playing time. This is huge because come playoff time, Jeff Green could be just as big a contributor as KG.

Not to mention, at this point there's no real difference between a 5, 6, 7 or 8 seed. The road to the finals goes through Miami, so as might as well play them in round 1 and get it over with.

"Ankle inflammation" when there was no memorable in-game injury and it seems to have cropped up over time in between games (KG played on it in Dallas) to me sounds like bone spurs or a stress fracture.  I have a hard time buying this is just a rolled ankle or something like that.  Not with a 36 year old KG.

An awful season just gets worse.

yes, exactly right. It's either bone spurs or a stress fracture, and they don't want to say so yet. KG wasn't himself for about the last month, something was clearly wrong

i disagree that it is bone spurs or fracture. I do believe it is an ankle injury.

Theyre being "overly cautious" about the injury. Danny Ainge describes it as sore.... I dont believe this to be serious at all, i just see them taking steps to rest KG for the playoffs.

If it's bone spurs my guess is KG calls it quits after the play-offs.

if we lose from now to the end of the year, we will still make the playoffs. Might as well get a pick near lottery anyways.

Goal is to beat Miami if its in the ecf or 1st round.
