With the signing of Williams, White, and Randolph to non-guaranteed (I believe) contracts for next year, Danny has created a lot of trade fodder.  As such, the following deal now works under the salary cap:

Gortat

for

Melo
Crawford
Williams
White
Randolph

The Suns could waive all three non-guaranteed players, and essentially take back only about $3.5 mil in salary for Gortat, and no long-term obligation save for Melo's rookie deal (and I'm assuming they like Melo, otherwise, forget the idea.)  Maybe Boston could pay a portion of Crawford's salary or throw in a draft pick (although not a first rounder) to sweeten the pot, but the salary structure of the deal is now very workable, and doesn't require Phoenix to take back an expensive, multi-year contract.

Phoenix isn't going to just dump Gortat for crap.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I like the idea of getting Gortat but other than Melo they aren't receiving anything of value.  They already have cap space and basically nobody wanted Crawford, that's why we got him so cheap.

I personally don't think Fan Melo is crap.  But thanks for your constructive opinion.

They couldn't get a 2013 pick for him at the deadline, despite trying, and the 2014 draft is significantly deeper, so they're not getting a 2014 first rounder for him.  They don't want him, he doesn't want to be there, and their owner is cheap.  Don't know if the Celtics will get him or pursue him, but Phoenix isn't going to strike the jackpot for him.  That trade saves them $4 million and gives them another young player to develop.  Gortat only gives them fewer lottery balls for Wiggens.

Currently Fab Melo isnt much more above crap. Im rooting for him to turn into a decent center but that could take years. The rest of that package is complete crap however. Why does Phoenix waste 5 roster roster spots on guys that haven't proven they can play in the NBA or have proven they have been NBA headcases... We got Crawford for an injured Barbosa and Jason Collins, that shows how little value he has.

Gortat is one of the NBA's legit centers. They arent going to trade him to us for our 9th, 10th, 11th 12th and 13th men.

Teams are now handing out starters for free? Where do I sign up?

You missed the part where Fab Melo has been soundly regressing in the NBDL this season?

Phoenix would, it's known that Danny was dangling him.   He is so over rated on this board it's astounding.  He isn't even a dominant player in the D League.   He is a project and I hope he pans out, I don't think he will but I would love to be wrong.   But make no mistake he is CRAP right now at his present skill level.

This isn't criticism about you it is about basketball.   He is not good enough to crack the regular rotation.  Randolph is a better player right now than Melo.  No way this happens unless the trade fairy comes down or the Easter Bunny brings it to you.

I agree. I don't want to make a habit out of flipping "assets" for par-to-sub-par talent either. If our focus for a rebuild involves Gortat we might as well tank next year.

trust me, he is.  he's a mediocre D-league prospect that needs to be in D-league again next year.  I'm hoping he pans out in another 2 years as a decent backup center but that's pretty high hopes.

Gortat would be a very good pick up. However, I dont think Phoenix would do it unless they have another prospect big from other teams within their reach in case they give him up and would just want to have some of our guards and would be willing to really take in Fab for the long term.

There are so many available UFA bigs after the season.

Big Al, Dalembert, Pachulia, Brandan Wright, Brand, David West and many more.
Even Dwight and Bynum are available - though D12 is a long shot.

very true,  think we'd have to do bass, wilcox, terry someone to sweeten pot along with melo who COULD turn out good but is soooo raw
only a small portion but as of now i'd be good with white and randolph next year and move melo and wilcox/bass
bass is making some nice ching for playing like a sub poor rebounding pf, we need contracts to match gortat (who is good)
phoenix blows it up he's available for youngsters with promise, draft picks and vets who can make the salaries work
