Brandon Bass - By the numbers

I think we all are disappointed with Brandon Bass this year. Compared to last season he struggles, to say at least. But do we expect to much from him after his career year last season?

He is putting up above career average numbers, in march after two/three horrible first months.

November: 9.5 PPG on .439 FG% with 4.9 RPG - too much shots
December: 6.1 PPG on .419 FG% with 5.6 RPG - lost confidence
January:  6.3 PPG on .468 FG% with 3.7 RPG - couldn't grab a rebound
February: 8.7 PPG on .467 FG% with 5.6 RPG - getting better
March:    8.4 PPG on .529 FG% with 6.3 RPG - solid numbers

He took way to much shots the first months and his shot didn't fall. Now it looks that his shot selection is better and therefore his percentages plus numbers are getting back to normal.

What do you think, does his play improve more come play off time?

I think Bass is just the kind of player who gets worse as the talent around him drops.  He's a very limited role player whose weaknesses will be quickly be exposed if he can't take advantage of the other team's focus on All-Star teammates.

Coincidentally, it seems Jason Terry isn't all that dissimilar.  Terry has really fallen off this season now that he's not benefiting from pick and rolls with bigs like Dirk and Chandler.

this is like paying amaire stoudamire 20m which has no defense i say no... but with lesser salary with that kind of efforts i'm fine with it, but if his salary are too low, its really hard to trade him for a big man, and since ainge gave him 20million? i don't know if someone will bite that salary, or add a filler or picks maybe they will consider, but for me i'll keep the rounds picks,

this pretty much sums it up far as I'm concerned ,    this team falls apart if the two major stars are not preforming up to par. 

Bass could have his pocket picked by a three year old kid, he is so fumble fingered and out of control with the ball  under the basket. 

Bass needs to practice the basics, dribbling, rebounding, blocking out , I cringe when he touchs the ball.    If he looks like he is gonna do anything but shoot , I panic and turn my head from the screen , cause its gonna be awful.

Other than rebounds I'm not even concerned with Bass on the offensive end.  It is his terrible rebounding and even worse team defense that has me wishing Doc would bench him.

I appreciate that he bangs against guys larger than him and holds his own, but he is horrible on weak side rotations.  The next charge I see him take will be the first and he offers next to no rim protection.

He might not be so bad with a shot blocker playing along side of him.  You could just see the difference when we went with Shav and DJ at the end of the Memphis game.  All of a sudden those drives started not being easy layups.

Bass is severely underrated by Celtics fans everywhere. He's been our most consistent player these past few weeks and has been by far our best rebounder recently. He's dominating the boards at last and without him we'd be on a long lose streak and playing .500 ball since the ASG... He's confident and hitting the jumpers he should; keep it up! We need Bass for the playoffs and he's turning it on at just the right time.

Not on the boards, he is a classic Danny Ainge tweener guy who can play some but is flawed in other ways.
